Is the Creature From the Black Lagoon super not scary ?

I've never been a big fan of the creature so I haven't watched it since the 70's.

I do have a few memories of watching the movie but never being scared by it.

Last week Svengoolie replayed it so I DVDr'ed and watched it last night.

Man, true to what I remember it's just plain not scary.

I would say it's even less scary than the Mummy

So my question to you all ..........

Did you ever consider the Creature scary ? ..... or do you like it a SFX Metaluna Mutant kinda way ?

Actually, very few classic monsters are scary: as long as you move at a certain pace (like five miles an hour), and don't stumble over your own feet, they can never catch you.
I like the Creature because his suit was great (even by todays standards), and he moved pretty fast, actually...

I wasn't scared until I went swimming for the first time at our local freshwater lake. I knew Jaws wasn't there, but the creature could be!

I like Creature for the costume design and the underwater sequences. I never found it suspenseful or tense in any way either.

His humanoid nature is somewhat disturbing, but I never found him scary...and I was quite a weinie as a child. His design is pure awesome-sauce though.

I just like the look of Creech. I think the movie is good, but not scary.

I was shocked how much of the movie was filmed on stage with an obvious projection background.

Watched this again a few weeks ago,as a kid I thought he was some kind of alien and did not find the Creech scary,I think the costume is pretty cool for the the time period (50's) I actually felt sorry for the Creech in some parts of the film.

                  Hmmmm....

I like the Creech, but I was never afraid of him. 'Course, even as a kid I'd root for the monster....

....and I think the Mummy is the scariest of the classics. Sure, he was slow, but he didn't have to catch you to kill you, he could just point at your image in his scrying pool and you'd drop dead.

meh, never did I feel these types of shows scared me.
They did however keep me very entertained and interested.
Back when I was introduced to these shows, we only had three channels to choose from.

When it came to CFTBL, it was the one over the years that had the most repeatability (if that is even such a word). I'd watch it at least once a year.

I still cannot help but feel the musical score was ripped off by John Williams....
Those two notes to suggest the creature was near, are pretty darn close to the JAWS theme to me.

Isn't the Creature's theme music the same as the Wolfman's.

I don't know if the movie ever really scared me. But the Creature costume is just so cool to me. When you look at other genre movies of the period and see the type of aliens and monsters that made it to the screen, the creature stands out.

I like the movie. In ranking the Universal horror films, I'd put it around No. 8 behind Bride of F, Frankenstein, Invisible Man, Wolfman, Mummy, Werewolf of London and Son of F.

As a little kid I had a dream he was in our shower - during the middle of the day, no less. What a baztardo!

Yes, as a kid I found him very scary. I think it was the huge webbed hands that are always portrayed in the attack position.

I don't find any of the Universal monsters "scary".

My wife thinks the creech is creepy looking though.

I think Karloff as the Monster in the first movie approaches scary. He's so gaunt and cadaver-like. His makeup accentuates this, and he really does pull of the "reanimated corpse" angle well. As the movie progresses, fear turns to pity, but that first scene of him when turns around most have scared the beejeezus out of folks in 1931.
