I've never actually seen Frid in anything else, but he had such a commanding presence as Baranabas. Horrific and sympathetic at the same time. Totally convincing in the role, which is no small feat.
I think he could have done more TV and Movies but he seemed to gravitate towards the stage.
Frid lived an hour away from me and I had heard from folks he was really receptive to meeting fans. About ten years back he did a play in my town, I was busy but a friend went and said he hung out after, signed autographs and told stories.
I'm sorry I never met him.

Considering Jonathan Frid's memorial requests and his infamous plea to "sing no sad songs for me"; Prospero's metaphor from William Shakespeare's The Tempest seems such a perfect fit (especially when one recalls Mr. Frid's own memorable and immortal rendition).
“Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits, and Are melted into air, into thin air; And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd tow'rs, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on; and our little life Is rounded with a sleep.”
Godspeed to the kind & gentle soul that is Jonathan Frid.

I was suprised this morning to see a small article on the front page of the local newspaper on him. Glad they did it. (They had an article on Jack Kirby i remember to). Sometimes they suprise me.
