Tobe Hooper-How the mighty have fallen.

    Watched Mortuary the other day.
It was boring and predictable, with all the "classic" routine characters and events.
It's a about a woman who decides to become a mortician (all she needs is the book "Morticians for Dummies") and buys a run-down morgue/graveyard.
The place looks like a nightmare, ideal for raising young children, of course.

Her son gets the room with bars over the window, where a deformed and insane family member once was held prisoner.
    Nice going, Mom!
She finds doors that say "never open this!!!!", which she opens, of course.

In the end, just about everyone dies.
The only funny moment was when a girl zombie turns to dust and her silicone boobs fall out of her chest.

And then it said "Directed by Tobe Hooper".
How the mighty have fallen, indeed...

Well, there was Chainsaw and Poltergeist.
The rest, I must admit, was downhill all the way...

he was a good director for Poltergeist 1982 thats only because Spielberg was all over him on that one on the set it was almost that he directed not Tobe.Texas Chain Saw Massacre 1974 was just okay Lifeforce 1985 was okay and the 1986 remake of Invaders from Mars was decent .but Tobe was never Mighty Bro?

Yeah, but that's directed by Sidney Lumet. (Not great in my opinion).

Maybe Wolfie is thinking of "Lifeforce" (just thinking of that because it's two words) or maybe one of Hoopers early movies had a different name in the U.K.?

                  Exactly.

OK...he sort of directed Poltergiest...but that was Spielberg's project...Hooper was just a hired hand.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a cool movie and all...but hardly a masterpiece of cinema.

                  Lifeforce was terrible.

Mathilda May's scenes make Lifeforce worth watching... and pausing, and rewinding.

Death Trap in the UK was possibly called Eaten Alive in the USA. Neville Brand and his crocodile in the swamp.

We allready had a cannibal movie called Eaten Alive.

I've seen the first half an hour of Lifeforce about 50 times. I don't think I've ever seen the ending

In the genera it was a masterpiece of cinema. Don't get me wrong, it's not Ben Hur or Shawshank Redemption, but for a horror/thriller, it's definitely a masterpiece. Timeless.

I have loved that movie since I first saw it on TV. One of my favorites, although that is more nostalgia than cinematic genius on Hooper's part.

I guess Chainsaw is unique in that it breaks a lot of cliche`s and it was made a few years after the new ratings system was put in place. It's probably as relevant as Psycho, Night of the Living Dead & a mainstream film like The French Connection in challenging the audiences expectations. It probably would not have been made at all if they tried in the mid 1960's.

Texas Chainsaw is an amazing movie - but it's also one of those things where the lack of budget made it rawer, and the rawness made it more exciting.

Great movie - don't want to take away from that - great movies made by The Masters usually have their happy accidents too.

Urr - well, in all honestly, I believe those are the only scenes I've seen.

Ahh! I haven't seen Eaten Alive (A.K.A. Death Trap) yet - I'll check it out now for sure!
