"...wasnt it broadcast live in England?"

Actually, it aired only in North America on it's original run. It was recorded at ABC studios in New York, and the episodes were generally broadcast about 5 days (give or take) after taping. The "live" references are that the scenes were all done in a single shot, without the luxury of retakes, because the expense of video tape was too much to justify waste. Rehearsals were generally limited to a single dry run and a single dress rehearsal. All daytime TV shows in that era which used video tape (soaps mostly) were produced in this manner. Very similar to video taping a live play, flubs & all.

I have alot of disconnected memories of watching the show too, from it's original run. Keep an eye on Amazon, they frequently run 50% off on the DVD boxsets. I understand Netflix (mail order) has them all available, and they are just beginning to release them streaming. I think 4 boxsets (160 episodes) are currently available.

actually im very suprised. i always thought it was an English import. I guess my thinking is a show that cool couldnt have come from the networks, lol. It was during a better time for television though.
My memories are very fuzzy, it had very interesting storylines. I liked how it managed to allways have a serious tone but you could always laugh at little things about it. I think the movie just going to make me want the boxsets (rather have the originals than the revivial.) I hope the movies popularity(hoping)will get the other episodes released although theres a TON of episodes....

Caught the 90s pilot on netflix streaming last night, haven't seen it since the original airing. I think it's held up pretty well, the show has a pretty solid cast. Weird to see Joseph Gordon Levitt in there.

Ben Cross was very upset when they cancelled it. It was a very good version, its just that the original has more beef (only way i can describe it,lol) Im trying to think what his servants name was. I think the character was named Willy, but it has a good actor who played him. I always thought if someone played Desaad (from kirbys new gods) it would be this guy.

I keep forgetting that Levitt was in this. The last time I watched this version was when it first came out on DVD (2005). You're right about the cast, it really was a great ensemble and they performed their dual roles really well. All this talk has me itching to see it again...perfect time of the year for it too
