    Red Riding Hood

From the looks of the trailers,I'm guessing this is suppose to be a monster movie. Thoughts?

As a teacher who tells this story to her kids, I resent this being turned into a "monster" movie.

It does basically have a werewolf in it, so it is a monster movie.

Have you researched any of the "fairy tales"? Many of them, including Red Riding Hood, originally WERE horror stories and contained a lot of graphic violence as well as more adult themes like sexuality.

Yes, I know all of that. But down through the years, they have been softened to children's tales. And since most of my class knows this CHILDREN'S story, I still resent what this is turned into AGAIN in the name of entertainment.

Hoodwinked was a fun kid's adaptation of Riding Hood.

Softened? Wolf eats grandma and little red riding hood. Huntsman cuts the wolf open alive and frees grandma and little red riding hood and then sews the wolf back up with heavy stones inside. Then the wolf tries to run away, but the stones were so heavy that he fell on the ground and beat himself to death. Yeah, that's real child friendly

I seriously doubt this movie will even be a blip on the radar of the children in your class... And even if they were aware of it I highly doubt any parent would take them to go see it...

Hardy Girl and Toyroom, I like the fact that tales like Little Red Riding Hood can be enjoyed or read or portrayed on different levels.

I remember how cool I thought it was in late elementary school or junior high, that there was more to Grimm's Fairly Tales the Mother Goose and Little Golden books let on.

Does anyone else remember the release to theaters of a PG version of Saturday Night Fever. I don't remember that with any other movie. It came out several months or more after the R-rated version was a big hit. Kind of the same idea.

But kids are savvy. They're going to see ads for the film in some form or fashion. While it's not the same thing I still remember being frightened by commercials for the Exorcist, Magic and It's Alive as a kid. I was a real fraidy cat until I got in junior high, even though i couldn't stay away from monster movies and books. Still can't.

There is also a version where the wolf locks Gramma in the closet, and the woodsman either knocks out the wolf or chases him away, so not all versions are as scary.

My point exactly. They may not see the movie, but the previews are on TV for all to see, and they can really scare little kids.
