^^^Yep, every Big Lots has the same MGM display that has been ransacked pretty well by now. Still dissapointed that they didn't get any cool crappy monster movies for Halloween this year.

They seem to get new assortments every so often, but I haven't noticed any new genre films lately.
On an unrelated note, Big Lots has been getting cheap Christmas movies in. They have individual DVDs for several of the Rankin-Bass films for $5.00 each. I picked up:
      Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
      The Little Drummer Boy
      Frosty the Snow Man
These are selling at Wal-Mart for $13.00 each, so I was happy to pick them up at $5.00 each

I picked up the Special Edition of "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" on Tuesday. Well worth the price tag of $24.95!

I bought the latest MST 3K boxset which has the incomprehensible movie "Werewolf". It's got fun extras too.

            Just saw 1408.
Not bad, though I could have done with the disaster movie deluge near the end.

A nice, classic King story, without the "everything sucks, I'm totally depressed" attitude he's displayed during most of his work in the last ten years...

I picked up "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" yesterday in the Wal-Mart $5.00 bin. It's not exactly a genre film, but it *does* have alot of cool cameos:
              Ron Perlman
              Robert Picardo!
And a slew of familiar monsters and aliens including:
              The Man from Planet X
              Robot Monster
The Metalunan Mutant from "This Island Earth"
              A couple of Daleks
              A Triffid
One of the brain monsters from "Fiend Without a Face"
Kevin McCarthy and a pod from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"
              and Robby the Robot
There's also a reference to the giant ants from "Them!"

Me too! Great stuff.... er.... you know what I mean....

Let's not forget "Laserblast" (two and a half stars.) A true classic.

                >It's got fun extras too.

I liked the "history of" bits a lot. It was neat seeing the ORIGINAL version of the show. And I liked the bit about the letters after Mike joined. ("New guy blows!")

The only bummer is that the Crow figure isn't Mego scaled.

Oh yeah, next to Daddy-o and Santa Claus, it's in the top three for me.

I was really happy to see clean scenes from the KTMA shows but I don't really want to sit through them, I mean again, that is.

I hope the fact that there are cleaned up bits of the KTMA shows means that they will be available. They should be smartasses and Lucas-ize them with new effects and crap like that.

We'll never see legitimate releases of the KMTA days, the main reason is and I quote Mike Nelson "They aren't very good". The people at Best Brains don't want those shown. Nothing is written, everything is off the cuff and it shows.

The movies can be fun, I mean they riff on Space:1999 and Stingray but if you compare the Gamera eps to the Comedy Central pieces, it's night and day.

Yeah, a friend of mine had a bunch of KMTA boots, and I tried to watch some of them. It was hard to get through them, long stretches with nobody saying anything and the jokes were really hit or miss. It was kind of neat to see them for history's sake, but Mike is right, they aren't very good.

....y'know.... I'd STILL watch them. Mostly out of morbid curiosity, but yeah I'd watch.

I think you're not alone, I have them all. I just get the feeling that they're embarrassed by them and while I don't totally agree, I can see why.

^^ KTMA is the Minneapolis TV station MST3K originally aired on before getting noticed by the Comedy Channel.
