I think this movie will make a good $2.00 flea market DVD purchase tonightCapt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"Comment

My Brother-in-Law purchased 1 of the Blade Movies like that 1 time ...., We sat down to watch it ..., and the Movie was extremely Dark ..., more than was meant ..., you could barley see anything, and then Half the Film was in Japanese or something. ... It was quite funny being on his Dime and all.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

This is the second review I've gotten of this movie that used the same one word summation. Surprising, because I heard a fairly positive review on the radio from someone I usually respect. Makes me wonder what's going on with it. It's getting a 72 at Rotten Tomatoes. Hmm.This profile is no longer active.Comment

An actors performance depends a lot more on the director than most people think. Look at Natalie Portman. Phenomenal actress, but under the "direction" of Lucas in the prequels, she sucks.
Nuff said.

I'm still kinda in shock at just how incredibly awful that film truly was. It was very odd from the get go, but I was pretty much with it for a bit, then it got REALLY odd, and at the end of the second act, the movie jumped the shark big time. HUGE.
What a joke. My biggest gripe with it (other than the acting, which is dreadful) was the fact that NOTHING in this movie is believable at all, yet every single line of dialogue is delivered with the utmost sincerity and is deadly serious. The premise of the film and what actually happens, including the "unbelievability" is actually fine... It's the fact that the actors they chose and their performances are so incongruous to it all.

I didn't have any great problems with the performances of Adrien Brody or Sarah Polley. As Hec mentions, he's won the Oscar but also more generally has an unconventional look and is still a successful actor in Hollywood which speaks to his talent. Sarah has also been Oscar nominated (ok for writing not acting) but I've seen her in things since she was eight or so, very talented.
The Species comparison is way off, coming only from that sci-fi & sex are part of the movie. There was a minor problem with this subject in the script that could've easily been fixed with a line about pheremones. I can see a closer likeness in theme to Cronenberg's work.
The direction wasn't bad, a little workmanship sometimes but could've been stronger. The greatest weakness was in the script's last act. Yes the writer did "play fair" in foreshadowing what was coming but it still felt like it come out of left field. And the last scene was SO obvious, so Twilight Zone-twist it was a disappointment..Comment
