When I finally saw it in my early 20s, it seemed pretty fake except for some of the stolen/stock footage. I used to be a major gorehound but I'm a total lightweight now. As Orlock points out, there's much worse stuff available freely on the internet and I can't watch ANY of it.Comment

I've gone off the "hard stuff".
Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age, but I just don't need to see stuff like torture anymore. Even the make-believe kind....

Well no I just mean he didn't get his brains eaten in a cantina.
I have a friend in the FX industry, those guys have really interesting stories and it's largely believed that over half of Faces of Death is fake. Some of it is very real, then other parts are just done by a crew.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

"Wow, that execution was great. Did you get it on film?"
"Uh, the sound wasn't on. Can we do it again?"
"Uuuuhhhh...".

Yeah, a good portion of the footage in Faces of Death is fake. The producers had the Ontario government fooled though, as the Ontario Film Review board banned those videos for years. Reminds me of Charlie Sheen and the FBI being fooled by the Japanese "Guinea Pig" videos for awhile and thought they were snuff films. Sometimes the authorities aren't as smart as they think they are.
BTW, there is a really good film book called "Killing for Culture" that examines all the mondo and exploitation films like Faces of Death, and goes through what is faked and what isn't. Very interesting read.Comment

Hell Yeah. When I was in the military there was a video store right of base that had them. Me and some friends watched those a few times
