    Olympics Anyone?

    Anyone watching the Olympics?

I know opening ceremonies aren't until tomorrow but some of the team sports have already begun. I watched the U.S. women soccer team lose a stunner to Norway yesterday morning and watched the U.S. men beat Japan this morning.

Men's basketball is good but I can't believe at how bad the U.S. men's team has performed over the past couple of Olympics. I don't know if there is too much ego on these dream teams but there is no way any country should even come close.

I can remember in the late 70's/ early 80's the Olympics were the thing to watch as a kid. It was that sense of patriotism and the burning desire to win the most medals.

Maybe it was the cold war days when we just wanted to beat Russia at everything. I have always been a Summer and Winter Olympics junkie since I was a kid and will practically watch any sport no matter how boring.

My kids don't seem too interested in it at all which is a bit of a shame. I guess it's just a sign of the times.

I'll be watching the cycling. That is about the only sport I watch on TV anyway. I am looking forward to the BMX making it's first appearance this year. For so long, going back to the 80s BMX heyday, it has been touted as an olympic sport and it has finally made it.

I definitely dig the Track and Field Events. Might have to check out Jennie Finch...I mean Team USA Softball, as well.

More of a Winter Olympic guy myself. With that said if I am switching channels and the Basketball team is playing or Phelps is swimming I might just watch it.

I watch boxing, some basketball...oddly enough not soccer (the best players don't play there), a little bit of gymnastics, and track & field.

The rest I really have no interest...especially swimming, I don't get that, you can't even see the athletes at all with them being submerged and splashing water all over the place, lol.

I have always loved the Olympics and will watch hours and hours of coverage. Probably the only things I don't like are the (professional) team sports such as basketball. JOHN

I'm looking forward to watching a lot of the Olympics. Hopefully, they will live up to expectations.

Aw, your just upset that Mexico isn't there

You're correct in that the world's best players aren't there since they limit the age to 23 and under plus 3 over 23 year olds per team but it's fun to watch the younger players to see what countries are producing the best talent (of the countries that are participating).

Messi from Argentina is there as well as Ronaldinho from Brazil and I'd say they are two of the best players in the world.

I'm really interested to see the U.S. especially Jozy Altidore and Freddy Adu. They are the two to keep your eye on. Adu was just downright awesome today and has superb ball handling skills like the better South American players. Altidore scored in his first cap against Mexico in a friendly. He came in as a sub around 70 minutes in and had two or three great opportunities to score.

Maybe since I still think the U.S. is a good 10 to 20 years away before becoming a real contender, I much prefer seeing the up and comers play than watching Landon Donovan, DeMarcus Beasley, etc. who are great players but aren't talented enough to be world class stars. Adu and Altidore definitely have potential.

Is annoying over here that we don't get to see the more interesting sports unless there is a Brit doing well...i'd love to watch the shooting, archery, field events, table tennis and the more obscure non high profile stuff.
