I'd like it to come back to community based sales and trades; we don't need to pay some company to allow us to buy and sell.
Wouldn't that be weird though, all those old guys at the toy shows will finally be right about eBay.

That only happens in Williamson County.

If this did pass. It is not only an ebay thing. It is electronic transactions that are being monitored. That means all of your credit card info and any time you do a Paypal. I think most of my MM sells/buys involved paypal, so it hits here too; and when you buy from doc, or hulk, or ctvt or anyone who has a business that takes credit cards.

          wow
          stay clear of Williamson County

            >Do they want taxes paid on EVERYTHING everytime it changes hands ?

Yup! The main reason they don't enforce this against flea markets and church yard sales is 'cos it'd cost a lot more to enforce than they'd make in taxes. But online.... all the footwork is done, all the records kept automaticly, a complete bill of sales recorded for all to see. Enforcement is almost a non-issue. It's like money sitting there waiting to be grabbed....

The Big-Brother-esque monitoring of the populace is sort of a side bonus. But the government spying on me like that isn't my concern; I'm afraid of the corporations getting their mitts on it. I'm not afraid of the government; they've proven themselves a bunch of incompetent boobs. But the corps.... THEY scare me!

If so, I wish them luck in the future

Like some of you, I am wondering if this could kill ebay. From that standpoint, it would be a good thing.

I would not mind going back to the flea market/toy show days and paying with cash, check, or money order.

                F ebay and paypal.

10 years ago people would have called you a "conspiracy nut" if you said the gov't would be monitoring all your transactions. Today...people call you a "conspiracy nut" if you say the gov't is monitoring all your transactions.

Glad to know there are people here who know how to read a news article.

Now just wait until the gov't gives the whole Internet to the corporations... unless MegoMuseum gets Wal-Mart to sponsor it somehow, we will al be saying goodbye to our friends online here.

This bill is only the start of bigger stuff that has already been announced. But...people call you a "conspiracy nut" when you say stuff like that, so I'll be quiet now!

                    Happy collecting!

This kind of reminds me of fightclub although I totally agree. I just got yet another chargeback from screwupal.

My account is currently frozen from a buyer who decided to ask after the auction ended for; COD delivery of my motorcycle, a review of my bike and myself from his friend but not until next week and finally for the eBay approved visual assessment appointment on Friday, money due Tuesday and no appointment actually in place. All I asked was a $250 deposit and some how I have the feeling that Paypal will side against me.

                        Never had that here.

Before everyone gets their panties in a wad:

A de minimis exception for transactions of $10,000 or less and 200 transactions or less applies to payments by third party settlement organizations. The proposal applies to returns for calendar years beginning after December 31, 2010.

If you guys disn't think Ebay Has been monitored for the last 3 - 5 years you're only kidding yourselves. Soon as a business hits it's 7 year stride the Fed is all over it. Ebay has probably never reported a loss to the Fed either...That's 2 strikes. The third strike is that Ebay deals on an INTERNATIONAL basis, which brings in National Security issues...and That's STRIKE THREE. The Fed's been monitoring for at least the last 3 years on Ebay.

My only advice to any and all here....stay away from Paypal as much as possible.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                            The beauty that surrounds them
                            Isn't it a pity".
