Who could play the Riddler?

So, evidently we had a character in Die Hard 3 who leaves the cops riddles to help them track him down.
And we had the Riddler himself in the 1995 Batman Forever.
Is this really the right time to put the Riddler back into the Batman franchise? Especially given the depths of psychological (and sociopathic) intensity on display from both Joker and Two-Face in TDK?
Can the Riddler in any way rise to the challenge of one-upping Heath Ledger's Joker??
I doubt it, I doubt it, I doubt it.Comment

"... the bomber’s (the villan's) true plan – to distract the city’s police and
emergency crews (with riddles) long enough to rob the bank’s massive
gold depository."
and he does this while threatening the lives of innocents with bomb explosions
---so we have a villain there that's schemingly smart and dangerous----
and if you can add to THAT, the typical "Nolan Gotham insanity" elements,
well, I think you have a strong unique character for the newest phase of the Batman franchise."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

Edward Norton...sorry...just like the idea of Willem Dafoe being mentioned too...no.
No, not because Norton is not great...but because he's already Bruce Banner...and Dafoe was the Goblin. We can't have the same group of actors playing all the comic book characters...come on now, lol.Comment

Robin Williams!!! Not really, but remember when several sources "confirmed" him for the second Burton/Keaton movie, along with Madonna as Catwoman (!), Fred Savage as Robin (!) and Danny Devito as the Penguin (they got that one right!)?
Malkovich is a bit old to play the Riddler now, opposite Bale, but he would have been great a few years back.
Ed Norton would be good. What about Matt Damon? He could pull of Riddler's narcisistic side. He might be a bit too buff and pretty boy though.
I wouldn't mind seeing some of the lesser villains in small roles, much like the Scarecrow in this one. Maybe Batman nabs the Mad Hatter at the beginning, and then we get in on the Catwoman action?
And if not Catwoman, what about introducing a new love for Bruce...Talia...seguing into the return of her father, Ra's Al Ghul?

Actually it's quite the opposite as described in the wiki entry for Die Hard 3
"... the bomber’s (the villan's) true plan – to distract the city’s police and
emergency crews (with riddles) long enough to rob the bank’s massive
gold depository."
and he does this while threatening the lives of innocents with bomb explosions
---so we have a villain there that's schemingly smart and dangerous----

well, I think you have a strong unique character for the newest phase of the Batman franchise.Comment

Mortensen doesn't have the range?
Have you see Viggo in Carlito's Way as a wheelchair bound former mobster? That scene with him an Al Pacino is stuff of legends...his manerismas and accents of a Puerto Rican is so dead on...I highly doubt Norton could've pulled that one off as good as Mortensen.
Didn't you see him in Eastern Promises? Mortensen was nominated for Best Actor for a reason.
So no, in my humble opinion...I highly disagree about Mortensen lacking in acting range, no way Jose.Last edited by Hector; Jul 22, '08, 9:04 PM.sigpicComment

Paul Bettany...

He's got a great look for Riddler.
He's extremely talented and funny.
He was Chaucer in "A Knight's Tale".
He was also the voice of Jarvis in "Iron Man".Last edited by highquality; Jul 22, '08, 9:55 PM.Comment

And actually, they almost pretty much *did* the same plot on the episode of "The Batman" where they introduced the Riddler, having Batman and Det. Yin chasing clues the Riddler's put down to keep everyone busy, some of the devices practically the same as DH3.Comment

I've always thought that Paul Ruebens (AKA PeeWee Herman) would make the creepiest Riddler of all time.Check out my photoblog: http://megomuseum.com/community/blog...773-plaztekmanComment
