Steve Buscemi was one of the "biggies" in talks for THE JOKER role
---personally, I'd perfer it if he took over Ledger's job rather
than take on a new character.

          Who could play the Riddler?

          I say Chris Eccleston.

He was perfect as a manic-depressive 9th Doctor in Series One, and he's played villains before.

I agree that having a Riddler who giggles over everything has been done to death. No disrespect to Frank Gorshin, but there were times when I wished that his girlfriend du jour would just smack him in the head to shut him up.

And forget Jim Carrey. He was terrible. But then, so was the script, and the resulting film.

We need a Riddler who's smooth, savvy, brilliant, devious, charming, deadly, and all that lovely stuff.

I think the Riddler could work if they did as a person toying with the Batman but not neccesarily confronting him. Almost like a stalker who happens to be a genius. Although that is a pretty played out thing.

            I'd like Edward Norton.

Edward Norton...sorry...just like the idea of Willem Dafoe being mentioned too...no.

No, not because Norton is not great...but because he's already Bruce Banner...and Dafoe was the Goblin. We can't have the same group of actors playing all the comic book characters...come on now, lol.

I'd say that sums up Simon Gruber from Die Hard 3 pretty well.
Again, if I was Nolan, I'd mimic that. I thought it was solid.

Sad thing is, because of that narrow mentality, a mentality that
Hollywood studios predict would run rampant--- it probably won't happen
even though some of those actors would KILL doing such---For example,
I'd think KEVIN SPACEY could do so much in just about any villain role...but
we'll probably never see it due to his turn as Lex---same for other popular
                      talented hero/villain actors.

All I want to see is a portrayal that impressess me.

The fact that they are in another movie playing another role means
                      absolutely nothing.

I guess you read that other thread?

Hey---let me reiterate---regardless of what I thought about TDK as a whole
---I thought Ledger KILLED in the Joker role----awesome. Just my luck he is
no longer with us to reprise the role.

Also, I was quite impressed with the Spidey movies---particularly
1 & 2---as well as the X-MEN movies of which I even liked the third and
most maligned one. I also loved SUPERMAN RETURNS----so, you know--
I do have my moments of satisfaction with superhero/blockbuster action
movies---it's just that this particular summer has been rough!

                            Yeah, let's exclude versitale actors....

I vote for Jim J Bullock then.

Hue...I also LOVE and I do mean LOVE Superman Returns. A lot of people hate it...but I absoutely love that film...so I get what you mean.

I'm not too keen on X-Men 3 though.
