You're not one of those Star Wars lovers who dresses up as Yoda are you?

Hmmm. I was going to start defending Who, but decided not to waste my energy.
I'm someone who tries to allow everyone a spot in the sunlight, and exercise tolerance.

True, some fans overdo it (SW, Trek, LOTR,...), and they can be annoying.
And some "anti-fans/haters" overdo it, which is rather petty.

The best I can suggest is: just...don't...watch...something...you...dislike.

And hate leads to darkness, as a little green dude used to say.

What's with all this hate for Doctor Who? It's the best thing since I cut my toe nails this morning, watching pieces of metal grow branches and heavy metal music!

lol! I agree,I love Star trek to death, but seeing some idiot with Spock ears and and a Star Trek shirts gets to me as well

Now for some reason the guys wearing Storm trooper suits or Star wars stuff doesn't bother me as much

I think the reason a lot of people like or dislike Doctor Who is because of the way the stories are structured.....

    They hide behind a Sci-Fi persona, but they're actually a mystery .....

You have to enjoy a good mystery to like Doctor Who .....

Unlike most Sci Fi shows ........

Who stories unfold slowly ... and it get's mystery lovers sucked in.

    A good example .......
How often do we usually see his Time Machine ?
Maybe for a grand total of 20 seconds per episode.

Doctor Who is more like Sherlock Holmes with space oriented window dressing

I'm not counting the New Series .......
The New Series is pure SCI-FI geared to grab todays short attention-span viewers.

    Hmmmm....

I think the appeal of Dr Who has always been a CONCEPTUAL one. Back in the day they had absolutely no budget, no effects, and very little time; so they'd come up with all sorts of weird ideas, aliens, characters, plots. (Giant robot gun wielding salt shakers?!?!?! ***!?!?!) THAT'S the appeal.

One of the reasons I don't like NEW sci-fi is 'cos they do the opposite: they have good effects, filming techniques, plot out solidly constructed stories and present very realistic aliens.... but it's all the same stuff I've seen before. Done in the same way. Better maybe, but a Terminator is still a Terminator. (Or maybe a Terminator is still a Fembot?) NOBODY would design a Dalek these days. NOBODY would dress the hero in modernized Victorian garb like the third Doctor. (Unless he's a vampire.) Ski-mask Cybermen? Not a chance! Huge evil face hidden in the wall of a church? Doubtful.

I honestly think it was those unbearable fans at the shows that turned me off to Dr. Who...

...like Berto said, I can handle Trekkies, but a Dr. Who fanatic makes my blood boil...

Thanx Hector for startin' this thread...I used to be a pacifist...really

Seriously, I think there's something for almost everyone with Who. The hard part may be finding it. For me, some of it is totally unwatchable. If somebody starts with the wrong thing, I can easily see them being turned off and never looking at another episode. I love Eccleston, but you won't catch me dead dressing like any of them. Well, maybe a Dalek.

I have to say that Dr. Who completely destroyed what used to be a great comic book convention that was the "Creation Conventions" here in NY. I could put up with the over exhuberant Trekkies...but the Dr. Who Fans just completely ticked me off.
