Planet of the Apes was an escape from reality...but a well-made one.

Its hard to discen that when many "bad reviews" seem to be heavily
focused on the innacuracies---language, scale, overall appearance
      of animals etc.
such criticisms give the impression that if it was merely a "good movie"
it still might get a bad rating

        Ok, how about horrible acting?

10,000 BC was nothing but horrid acting left and right.

          "Horrible acting" would do it.

Just makes sense that if a movie has horrible acting--then a
more decent script that would bear better actors and/or better director
          wasn't possible

            It is terrible.

            BUT

This movie can be appreciated IF you go into watching it with a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 attitude. It should be a film that is fun to mock - it is good at that.

& The Story Blew Arse,.. without the Little History Facts,.. inwhich I never care about if the Acting is credible & the Story is great.

I finally saw it last night, and I'm throwing in with you guys. It's not that bad. It wasnt as "epic" as it could have been, but it was an ok way to kill an hour and a half.

Historically...I didnt see any huge flaws. The film references that the builders of the Mountains of the Gods are refuges from a sinking island (Atlantis) and as such, had technological skills beyond the tribes featured here. That explains the metal, use of Mammoths (could have been Mastadons, which are quite a bit larger than their wooly cousins), etc.
By referencing this potential tie to a lost civilization (which I wish was played up more) this places this film in a fantasy type realm....not a factual historical account....Although there are many...Graham Hancock comes to mind--who believe (and have some evidence) the Great Pyramids (which the Mountain was obviously suppossed to be) and the Shpinx were actually built in approximately 10, 000 BC and later claimed and reworked by the Egyptians.

It wasnt the best film out this year, but I think it's certainly better than some here are making it out to be.
