I was a little afraid of this. The trailer makes it look like they're attempting a real story, but then the movie is only an hour and a half. It didn't seem like they could create a great character in that amount of time.

You CAN; if that's your goal.... and you're not capitalizing on a trend or anything. Hancock didn't raise my hopes 'cos on the surface they're selling what seems like a new idea (a burned out, underachieving superhero) BUT from the ads it's the same old same old. (You can SEE him fighting another super in the ads. Gee I wonder what turns him around?)

Too bad they couldn't get the rights to Major Bummer or The Hero Alliance. ("I'm Bart.")

This was one confused movie, not really knowing if it wanted to be a comedy, an action film, or a poignant look at the human condition.

No one I saw the screening with liked it, and several in the audience fell asleep.

It rips off quite a few better films, and felt very long at 90 minutes.

Has a Will Smith 4th of July movie ever tanked before ?
I thought the Trailer looked interesting,.. & at the same time looks as if it rip's off Superman Quite a Bit,.. however they incorperated the "Depressed Hero" Vibe. My Brother's going tommorrow,.. he & I have the same tastes in Movies,.. I'll see what he says. I do know He loved Wanted.

I hope it isn't that bad, I like Will Smith and usually his movies are pretty enjoyable for me. We'll see I guess.

The reviews are generally bad, but some respectable really liked it while acknowledging it's flawed and uneven. I was reading the New Yorker review last night and it made me want to see it.

I'm waiting for the DVD on this one. I could eat these words by Monday, but I bet this is Smith's first summer under-performer. Okay, there was Wild, Wild West. This is his next one.

On the other hand, the Dark Knight is going to explode. I swear, just by the buzz I've read and experienced first hand, this movie may outdo every other summer movie this year. Every day someone else walks up to me, the known comic guy, and tells me how they are dying to see it.

Our weekly progressive free paper (if you live in a city, you have one), had an oddly orgasmic review of Hancock. I'm pretty surprised given all the other reviews I have read and the fact that the reviewer is one of the most pretentious film snobs ever.
Here's the link:Will Smiths fun Roman de Gare: Superhero agonistes: Film: Feature/ Review: Independent Weekly: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill
Warning! Pretentious snobbery ahead! Read with caution.

^^Wow, he does enjoy reading his own work, doesn't he? lol I've noticed some of the positive reviews are from artier people who have contempt for superhero movies and see Hancock as a refreshing departure. But those people usually don't know what they are talking about with SH movies, so who to trust?

I think I may have to get away and see this movie and make up my own mind...it's just such a busy movie summer and there's only so many movies I can see.

A few good scenes but thats about it.
