    Paul Rodgers in Queen

My IPod shuffle just played one of the Paul Rodgers Queen songs.

I am going to delete it and ALL of his stuff with Queen.

I wanted it to be good but every time I here one it is like being trapped in a Karaoke bar while someone is murdering a song you like but without the embarrassing fun and drinking associated with karaoke.

RodgerS is fine - I even like Bad Co a little but his shoeS are way too small.

It's a tribute band with one of rock's all-time greatest vocalists
covering QUEEN tunes in their own unique way---but
with the advantage of having two key members of
the actual band QUEEN in it---it's not the original QUEEN
and they don't purport to be------it'll do.

You guys know I'm a HUGE Queen fan...been one since I was a kid.

But I just can't get into Paul Rodgers...I mean he is a solid singer in his own right...but he is just not Freddie Mercury...it's just not the same.

Add that to the absence of bassist John Deacon (who retired and believes Queen should remain with Mercury's memory)...and well...and with all due respect to Brian May and Roger Taylor...it's not really Queen.

However, having said that...I'm glad both May and Taylor are still busy playing Queen songs, more power to them...I will NOT buy a Queen/Rodgers CD though...no way in hell.

People have to eat. They have to do what they do best. Brian May needs to eat and so doesn't Roger Taylor. They can't get local jobs down at McDonalds. So they have to do what they know what they do best. It isn't like Paul McCartney who is a superstar by his own name. Brian May has went solo on a few occasions and everything tanked.

People are hungry and they need to eat. Look at The Doors. Robbie Krieger and Raymond Manzarek have reformed the Doors with Ian Ashbury on vocals and did a Doors of the 21st century tour and packed the house.

Musicians have to do what they do best. If they own the rights to the name, more power to them.
Now if they were trying to record "new" songs and sell them as Queen or The Doors. Then there would be a reason to be ticked off.

But I see no reason. If you don't like it without Freddie Mercury or Jim Morrison, just don't listen to it. I consider it a tribute and hold a lighter up to them.

        Just my two cents...

I'm guessing May, Taylor and Rogers have made enough cash in their lives that they don't have to worry about eating.

I enjoy a good cover or tribute, but Queen songs without Freddie on vocals just make me sad. They need to let it go. If they want to keep making music, cool, but don't be a Queen tribute band, do something new, form a new band, call it something different and write new stuff. Rogers just can't sing a Queen song. He doesn't have the range, not many do. The only one to come close in that Mercury tribute years ago was George Michael, and while I can't stand him, at least he had the vocal talent.

Then you get great musicians with decades of history trying to create a new band. You wind up with like The Firm. The what? Oh yeah, Jimmy Page and Paul Rogers...what? Huh? I am not buying that record....
Wait....did Jimmy Page release another unearthed Led Zeppelin live record again? Yeah, sure...we'll pick it up...

Nobody buys new records from bands they don't know unless they are new or spark an interest in the public eye. It is sad but that is how it is in the music industry.

Brian May probably wanted to start selling concert tickets again. I am pretty sure he wasn't packing them in with "The Brian May Band." You know? Right?

Anyone saying Paul Rodgers can't sing like Freddie---okay that's fine

Thing is...he isn't trying to sing like Freddie so in my eyes the point is moot

                Paul sings it HIS way---

                Some can handle it---some can't

Count me as one that can.

I heard the first Rodgers/Queen concert about two years ago, and really enjoyed it. (I didn't know that Deacon wasn't part of the line-up). I honestly thought George Michael did a better job with the band when he sang "Somebody to Love" with them back in 1992, but Rodgers doesn't exactly suck. He's no Freddie, but he can sure belt out the notes! And it was fun to hear live Queen for the first time in 15+ years. I have no issue with this at all. Let the guys keep rockin' the world -- into their 80s if they want to!!

Brian May and Roger Taylor are multi-millionaires many times over, lol.

John Deacon is doing just fine in retirement.

People have to eat...I'm sorry, but that was funny.

I'm sorry dude, but Queen is one of the richest bands in the world, they have sold millions of records worldwide...they are in the elite top sellers of all times:

The McDonalds comment is just preposterous and overly exaggerated.

                        Please, they eat enough.

I don't see what all the fuss is about: BAD COMPANY was a better band than QUEEN anyway... Paul should be getting that band back together...
