Funniest Brit Show-- Benny Hill vs Monty

Which show is the most funny ?

I want to say Monty, but I just can't

    Benny Hill HAS to win

Monty was funny ... But Hill was totally hilarious

    What do you think ?

They were both great! But I think Benny Hill was a little more mainstream in the sense that he did alot with American/British TV shows/movies. I remember he did a whole bit about Starsky and Hutch. He played both parts, and used a special lens that stretched him out so he looked thinner. Me and my brother were cracking up, too funny! He also did one about Kojack and he played Telly Savalas and his brother. He was great. Also,BH was more accessible being on every night on channel 9, whereas MPFC was only on PBS Sunday nights, and then they stopped airing them altogether.

What brought on my question .........

BBC America always runs a Monty marathon on the weekends ......

I never noticed how UNFUNNY a lot of their sketches are --- until I watched them all at once.

When Monty does hit the mark, it's CRAZY FUNNY, but 99% of their sketches are pretty tedius...

On the other hand, Benny seems to hit the mark at least 80% of the time.

              Meaning of Life was fantastic

IMO, the best Monty movie ever.

One man's opinion: Python even at its most tedious is funnier than Benny Hill at its most inspired. There is something inherently, bizarrely absurd -- and therefore comical -- about every Python premise which, even when the sketch doesn't quite hit the mark, makes it rise above the mediocre predictability of Benny Hill.

I was just watching a Python the other day ......

I forgot what the premise was but it was basically a really boring boxing sketch

Out of nowhere, at the end of the sketch, they show a shot of Terry Jones --- completely bareass playing the piano....

It was like the funniest thing ever ....... but the sketch itself sucked.

I think their shock value outweighs their actual funnyness

I gotta go against the grain so far and say, for me ayway, Python was not only the funnier these two BBC products, but one of the funniest shows ever!

I love sketch comedy and thir stuff was ran the gambit from smart to slapstick. Benny Hill had some funny moments, but Monty Python was pure brilliance. They took on all kinds of social and policital taboos. They were absurd, over the top, in your face, subtle smart and just down right hilarious.

I really don't remember watching Python growing up but watched a lot of late night Benny Hill when I was around 12 or so. Not only did I find the humor completely hilarious but for some odd reason, they didn't censor the nude women after midnight which of course was an added bonus for a 12 year old watching free tv.

I am with Hector on this one. . . RED DWARF. . . . Simply AWESOME.

But sticking to the genre/topic. . . . always been a big Monty Python fan. . .and never liked Benny Hill much at all. Slapping a bald dwarf (whilst I may enjoy this privately), I don't find particularly funny, nor speeding up skits thinking something not particularly funny, would be hilarious if played faster. Females displayed - in stocking suspenders and topeless. . . . .enjoyable but not humerous. Benny just never did it for me.

I did just a couple of weeks ago stumble quite by accident into Doune Castle (west of Stirling/North of Glasgow), and I instantly recognised the Castle from the Holy Grail. . . sure enough it was used as the French stronghold ("We already got one"), and had tons of pictures of the MP boys returning to the castle for anniversaries of the Movie, and book signings and things.

Python, hands down. Benny Hill was ok, he was more slapstick ala the Stooges.
