Ah T1K. . .you never cease to amaze!!!

His mate was called Strop. . . always wore a life saving cap tied onto his head and a T-shirt with a Tuxedo print on the front. . . he was married to Delvene Delany - who I just posted a picture of in the Girlfriend If I wasn't married thread. . . she was the hot babe on the Hogan Show every week!!!!!!

    Classic humour!!!! But. . . OK. . . a bit Benny Hill-esque as well!

    Dave,

Remember the Paul Hogan show ?

I used to love that show ........ They played it here in the US in the late 70's .......

I can still remember Paul and his buddy making toast with a blowtorch

A lot of people over here didn't like the show...that's true...I think over here he was one of those picked on by the alternative comics coming through ...calling him sexist, dirty old man and unfunny...I remember Ben Elton in particular having a pop about him in various routines/interviews. I think that made the tv execs drop him like a preverbial brick....when I was young he was funny to watch due to the slapstick type humour...but once you passed a certain age you only watched it for the scantily clad women...then not at all.

    Series question ?

I heard most Brits didn't/don't like Benny Hill ... and he only became popular after his shows were played in the States.

    American's LOVE Benny (me included)

    is that true ?

how many Python quotes can you remember compared to Benny Hil???

    Benny is an over-sexed assgrabber

That alone makes him funnier --- Benny don't need to be quoted

If you weren't English some of the premises behind Monty were tough to understand. I think Benny crossed the pond and translated better. I personally loved them both so I'd call it a draw.

Just press fast forward on python...or indeed any other show...bingo...instant Benny Hill...funny for about 2 seconds then just tedious.
Python carried on a tradition which included the Goons and Spike Milligans Q ...where the punchline was unimportant....the chaotic and bizarreness was what was funny...that inventivness...(yes it could be hit or miss)...is what draws me to it. Give me Python any day....how many Python quotes can you remember compared to Benny Hil???

I never noticed how UNFUNNY a lot of their sketches are --- until I watched them all at once.

When Monty does hit the mark, it's CRAZY FUNNY, but 99% of their sketches are pretty tedius...
I totally agree with Type1Kirk. For a good show nearly all the time, BH hits the mark. But if you are looking for the funniest sketches the two shows ever had, the top ten would probably be MP sketches.

Python...how Benny Hill can even be in the same league is questionable at best....goodies and young ones were great too and Red Dwarf is superb up till series 5 or 6.

Grew up on Goodies and MP. . . and then Young ones in my teens. Young Ones was brilliant but hard to watch now.

Some of the MP and Goodies boys were in University review shows together before they made the big time. . . .I remember being shocked seeing a picture of a young Bill Oddie being clean shaven and in a suit, on stage with the likes of Graham Jones, and Eric Idle I think. . . sure Graham Garden was there too, and others. . . .but my grey matter is more of a sluch these days then it used to be, so can't guarantee the accuracy of the recollection.
