Ive been looking at motorcycles as well, a 250 or 400cc. However I believe I can sell my wife on a scooter more than a bike.

I was gonna take a test ride today, but my customer had a emergency and I had to skip lunch today.

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

Tell your wife that scooters are harder to maneuver than small bikes, it's a safer choice.

      You can thank me later.

            yeah, I ride a scooter.

Tell you wife that the folks in cages don't see little things like mopeds. If you are in any kind of commute traffic, the schmuck with 3 hours of sleep, a cel in one hand, a donut in the other will NOT see you or hear you. With those little buzzers you will be hard pressed to get out of the way in time. Go for the 250cc at least. One other suggestion, even if you go for the scooter, find and take the AMA safety course. It is required in some states to get your first time mc license. If it isn't in your area, take it anyway - you will have lower insurance rates and you will learn many things. Then take the advanced rider course. This can save your life.

This was my Scooter. A 1962 Lambretta. I no longer have it but I had a lot of fun with it at the time.

As you can imagine it was a bit of a head turner.

Hey, that's neat ........ but around these parts I wouldn't be caught dead riding anything with a rebel flag on it ....... That's just like asking for a beating

I went scooter shopping today, problem was scoots are all sold out and not a one to test ride. Best bet there will be more in stock around July

I found a used Honda Rebel with only 197 miles on it. To my surprise my wife gave me the green light if I want a motorcycle.

I already took the motorcycle class and have my motorcycle license.

I'm going with a scooter because my wife will also be willing to drive it as well.

How fast can a scooter go ... ?

Can it be driven on a highway ?

                          Just wondering ...
I don't think i've ever seen one go over about 20 or 30..

I think most scooters i've ever seen were riding on the shoulder of the road.
If that's true, they don't sound very safe - because of the threat cars might literally blow them off of the road.

                            Mike,

I'm now looking at the Kymco 125 or 150 cc scooter. The 125 will top out at 70 and the 150 at 80 or 90. Kymco also makes a 500cc scooter that would probably top out at 90+

These bikes are street legal, and Nashville is becoming more and more a scooter city. In fact I am now having to wait till mid July before anyone gets more scooters in stock.

I have called dealers in Mid Tennessean, Kentucky and Alabama, and no one has any to sell.

Like rche said, go take the safety course no matter what you decide. You may think you know how to handle even a small bike, but the training will show you all the things you don't know.

Bill, I love the Triumph. Any complaints with it?

I myself am on a Sportster at the moment. Not too big, loud enought to stay noticed and good on gas.

I really wouldn't feel safe driving a scooter or motorcycle. Too many drivers not paying attention.

I don't know how many close calls I have on a weekly basis in my SUV.

My only big gripe with people around here who ride around on two wheelers (and I'm making a generalization) is that they don't follow traffic law. I don't know how many times I see someone on a cycle roll up to a stop light on the shoulder or even worse between the two lanes and then jack past everyone when the light turns green. A lot of high speeds and weaving in and out of lanes is another big problem.

I always shake my head when I see one of these clowns and swear I'm going to see a lethal motorcycle accident one day...partially due to motorcycle drivers who don't follow traffic laws and driving in an area where you have to be an aggressive driver to some extent just to get around.
