    I confess I haven't followed the genre very closely myself, in about that same time frame- thanks Corporate America!

    I threw up in my mouth at the first 5 seconds of Eminem's first single, and never looked back....

      But there is a TON of good modern hip-hop... not mainstream stuff mind you, mainstream hip-hop is a terrible, terrible...terrible, state of affairs.

        I can handle some of it.

        Most of the older bands have been mentioned....I remember liking Grandmaster Flash "White Lines" but you could never find the single anywhere.

        My kids don't listen to much rap but my daughter likes the song Pop, Lock, and Drop it
