I'm sure 20 years from now, people will wonder why anyone was will to pay $400 for a PS3.

I remember receiving an Intellivision was the pinnacle of anything I considered in the toy catergory as a kid and my parents reminded me every day how much they paid for it.

Your absolutely right. I have old ads with the "new computers" that was out at that time. In other words the computers that are dinosaurs now. Needless to say when I look back at what a IBM 386 did for what it cost then and what it is worth now (if anything) I cannot help to laugh a bit. Good old depreciation value. I just bought a newer quad core system awhile ago and I know that it will eventually become obsolete within time just like any and all electronics. One cannot win with most electronics as it pertains to increase in value. Although I must say that in a sense the purchase price was well worth the vast knowledge that I had learned at the time. Now I buy electronics like most do knowing that it will eventually become a loss due to depreciation. It may not always be a loss depending on how one utilizes it. For instance my last PC was easily paid for with the web sites that I ran. I guess it really all depends on what each individual does with their electronics. Whether they decide to put it to a good use or just play games and waste time. The 3DO game system was one of the biggest loser purchases for me. I paid $300.00 for mine which was half of what it initially cost when it very first came out. I waited a while longer before getting mine right away. Another friend of mine was one of those people who could not wait so he paid the full $600.00 price for it when it first came out. This was back before pre internet days so buying a game console and flipping it for a profit back then like some did the recent PS3 was pretty much unheard of at that time. Now days I could have bought a brand new state of the art game system for what I paid for my 3DO way back then. Then again that was then and this is now. Even though the 3DO was a great gaming system for it's time I personally could not justify spending the $600.00 for it new. Then again I am not a real avid game player. My friend was nuts about games so to him I guess it seemed worth it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I felt the same way when the Neo-Geo came out. I thought it was a great system but couldn't bring my to pay what they wanted for the system or cartridges.
