    Intellivision

Ok, who owned Atari's number one challenger back in the 80s?

I loved my Intellivision, I always preferred it over the first generation Atari.

    First generation Intellivision...

    Second generation Intellivision...

I still have both consoles hidden in the basement somewhere.

Count me in on this thread as well. I absolutely LOVED the Intellivision. It was a better graphics upgrade to the stick figures that Atari had for graphics. The Intellivision's stick figures.....well, looked like better stick figures. I still have mine with a ton of games. Friends still like to come over and play it every so often. It still works great. The Football, Baseball, Auto Racing and others were awesome for their time. I love how the Baseball game yells yerrrrr out (kind of sounds like the guy is belching it when he says it). What good times I tell you. Advanced Dungeon and Dragons was really awesome. I played that game for hours up on end. There was times where I did not even want to go to bed as I wanted to just keep playing my Intellivison. Remember the playbooks that came with the Football game? Hiding the code you entered from your oponent so they would not know what play you were doing. You had to enter like 1,4,5,8 or a code something like that depending on the play that you wanted to execute. Good times!!

I got so excited when I seen your thread that I totally over looked your Burger Time game. That game is awesome!!! I played it for many hours upon end. Now you have me wanting to get out my Intelly again. Have you seen the newer hand held games? They are like built into a controller now that you simply plug into your TV via audio video cable and you can select from many titles. Atari also did this with their vintage games as well. The also have some of the classic Intellivision games on Playstation and software discs for the PC as well. That reminds me there are emulators for the PC to. I have one for the Intellivision, one for the Atari and of course one for the Commodore. The emulators are ok although I still like the original vintage gaming system better as far as control and nostalgic purposes is concerned.

I still have an Intellivision II, and Intellivoice, and Atari converter that I inherited from my brother. He bought it for his kids many years ago at a yard sale, and when he moved, it became mine. I do still have my Atari 2600 in my room, though it isn't hooked up at the moment.

Yes, this is the system we grew up with. When I think back to it, the system was about $200-$300 and the games were $40-$50....a lot of money for the day but my parents broke down and purchased it for us.

My brother used to drive me crazy trying to play him in any game because he played the games incessantly and figured out glitches in the games or strategies that could easily beat anyone.

For example, in Football there was a play where the receiver would run a crossing route and the play was designed to throw the football after the receiver completed his route but he would throw the football just as the receiver was crossing the center and no matter what type of defense you used, there was no way to defend it and he would pick up a minimum of 3 yards per down so he would run an entire game that way just to irritate you. One of his other infamous plays would be to run a pattern where he knew the receiver would ultimately be but would take his quarterback and run backwards as far as he could until your player just about sacked him and then bomb the ball in the direction of the receiver and half of the time his Hail Mary would work because you would quickly have to try to recover with another player that you controlled and figure out quickly where his go to receiver was located while the ball was in the air and off screen.

Sea Battle was another one. He would only use his PT boat and could maneuver it so fast, it was impossible to hit him and literally wipe out your entire fleet with one ship.

I still have the system in storage and haven't tried to hook it up to see if it still works but have what's left of the games, etc. We also purchased the first Intellivoice which I believe came out with B-52 bomber...that's really the only game I remember ever using it for and I think it was a package deal.

Good memories. BTW, I might be wrong but I don't think Intellivision had Donkey Kong...that was Colecovision. Again, I had it in it's very early days and Mattel wasn't too keen on open architecture and had their own games so I don't remember there being many games that you could buy for either Atari, Intellivision, or another competing system.

You'd be wrong...I'd have to check the packaging (still have it somewhere) but it IS Donkey Kong for Intellivision (1st version) but it was probably made by another vendor and not Mattel.

My family owned three different Intellivisons from 1982-1987! We LOVED it. Favorite games: TRON Deadly Disks (best video game EVER except arcade Tempest!); Dungeons & Dragons; Astrosmash; Basketball; Baseball; Swords & Serpents!!! Last year I bought my Mom a bunch of games from ebay, but I never did buy her a system. Hec, is yours for sale?

Man, You do not know what you have missed out on. Definitely good times. The system is old, but some of the games are still pretty cool. If you still have your Intellivision hook it up and check it out sometime. It may just surprise you. I am sooo glad that I kept mine after all of these years.

I had Atari and my cousin had a Coleco Vision. I can remember playing Zaxxon at his house many of times on his Coleco. Way better than the Atari of course graphics wise. Then of course what wasn't better than the Atari after the Atari's competition started showing up. Anyone here remember the Jaguar? The newer version of the Atari.

Here are my pictures of my Intellivision and some of the games I have from my insurance inventory that I keep of my collectibles.

This is the original box mine came in.

Here you can see that the box even has the original price sticker still attached to it.

Here is a closer shot of the price sticker. My system was purchased from Target and I can still remember getting it as I type this. The price looks to be $250.00 if you round the price up.

Here is the actual game system taken out of the box.

Ahh yes, The good old voice module. Yes, it did come with the B52 cartridge in case anyone is still wondering.

I can remember that the games were like $40 and $50 as someone else stated earlier in this thread. I got lucky one weekend at the mall. KB Toys was liquidating the games off for .50 each yes that is right .50 each. Unbelievable!!! This was of course after my Dad had bought a bunch of the games for me already at the regular $40 to $50 price. I can still remember that big table out in front of the KB store in the mall. I could not believe my eyes. I was like a kid in a candy store as one may imagine. I loaded up on whatever games that I did not have. Man, That was awesome!! BTW I have alot more pictures and even pictures of some of the cartridge boxes with the KB sale sticker of .50 on them. I have the Donkey Kong that everyone is speaking of. I cannot believe that it is not in the picture. I do have a picture of it as well. I will post it soon for all to see.
