Bill Paxton‘s death was triggered by an aneurysm that required surgery which resulted in a fatal stroke.

According to the death certificate, Paxton had just undergone valve replacement surgery to correct the aortic aneurysm problem when complications arose later and he suffered a stroke.

According to the death certificate, Bill had the surgery on Feb. 14 and died on the 25.

P.S. Paxton opened up about a childhood bout with rheumatic fever weeks before he died, saying the illness left him with heart damage. Paxton; "I woke up one night, I had been to a hockey game, and I woke up one night and I had a lot of pain in my left wrist." 'It usually damages your heart valves. " Paxton addressed this in the interview, explaining that while he experienced pain in the wrist, it often leads to heart issues.

After several rounds of testing, doctors ultimately diagnosed Paxton with rheumatic fever, a condition that can cause permanent damage to the heart and lead to heart failure, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Such bad luck, what a bummer...
My brother had this exact same surgery two weeks ago. No stroke, but they did worry he might have had one because it took a long time for him to come out of the anesthesia. I think I would have been even more nervous had this terrible thing happened to Bill Paxton prior to my brother's surgery. Scary stuff.
