Musical Guilty Pleasure - What's Yours?

For those of us who suckled at the teet of 70's stadium rock, the synthesizer sounds of the 1980's could be a bit jarring. I hated 80's pop so much, I ran underground to the likes of Husker Du, Black Flag, the Clash and the Ramones. Ultimately garage rock went grunge and I could listen to the radio again. But if I'm completely honest...

there were plenty of 80's New Wave hits with which I found myself singing along in the car. I would have never admitted it back in High School, but I liked Duran Duran. I just picked up there greatest hits and I love it. Yeah, I still treated it like a fetish porn mag when I took it to the register, but now I can admit it. I enjoy Duran Duran.

OK that still feels a bit embarassing. What are your musical guilty pleasures? You know, bands you are just too ashamed to admit you like. Own up people.

    80's George Michael(wham!)

The other day a huge group of us were hanging out and playing singstar on the playstation 3 and when the wham song "Wake me up" came up and only me and my brother knew the lyrics we knew there was a problem

I don't have any ABBA CDs, but I do like them pretty well. We had a 50-something engineer here at work that would crank that ABBA Gold CD constantly in his office. It seemed so out of left field for him.

I'm a big Bryan Adams fan, and I think he gets a little flack for being a pop sell-out. I think when he kept trying to replicate "Everything I Do..." that hurt his stature in the eyes of many passing fans. Plus Mutt Lange (Shania Twain's hubby) produced several of his albums and they all started to sound a like. I guess he's a guilty pleasure to some, but I'm not ashamed of him.

Same goes for Huey Lewis. I have his greatest hits CD. Just good, fun pop-rock, nothing wrong with that.

I've gotten into some older country music of late. At one point I would never have admitted I owned a country CD. I'm currently wearing out The Legend of Johnny Cash vol. 1 and The Essential Jerry Reed.

No need to feel guilty about that, in my opinion. Duran duran are my favorite band. Its hard to top that greatest cd of theirs. I'm seeing them in concert later this month.

Dumbest song in history, but I actually have it downloaded on a CD I call "Cheesy 80's". I play it quite a bit.
