The Big Bang Theory now SUCKS...

I've been a faithful BBT fan from the beginning. Many fellow geeks hate it because it makes fun of geeks...but I can make fun of myself, I can take a joke. The show has been a reliable fun ride with all the geek references, albeit, too explanatory (obviously geared towards the non geek viewing audience). The cast tries too hard acting like geeks, basically stereotyping them, which has been troublesome to many. But again, that has never bothered me.

Sheldon, and especially Howard, just crack me up...Stewart too...

But now, sadly and annoyingly...it has shifted to the Bernadette Baby show (something Kaley Cuoco was opposed to)...which in turn, has completely changed the entire dynamic of the show...plus "asexual" Sheldon, is all of a sudden, this stud, even looking forward to "coitus" with Amy on a much more frequent basis.

Oh, and nowadays, I despise Raj, who is not only getting more and more annoying and obnoxious by the week...but he's really turning into a pathetic creep.

Maybe it should morph into a new show, The Bernadette & Raj Show...

Big Bang Theory, it was nice while it lasted...but it's time to put you out to pasture.

    Agree or disagree?

I was not a big fan of the show in the beginning. I can take a joke, but the characters were cartoonish stereotypes that only exist on bad TV: Raj literally cannot talk to women, Sheldon is brilliant but cannot understand the simplest of social convention, etc. But I thought the show found its voice and the character's became more well-rounded. The women were a nice addition to the cast and gave it some new life. And they had great guest stars and pop culture references that really made it feel like they were fans of the geek culture they were ribbing.

But yeah, then the show went downhill in a hurry! The writing this season (and most of last) is terrible, and they clearly do not know what to do with the characters anymore. I don't completely blame the baby, but I think the baby is another sign the writers are running out of ideas.

Then again, it managed to stay fresh longer than most. It is just getting to that age where this sort of thing happens to shows. I thought Modern Family was really clever when it premiered, but in my opinion, it has suffered the same decline...

I am of the minority that NEVER got into that show. Never found it funny despite watching it several times to see what all the fuss was about. I've never been a bandwagon jumper so to speak and I just don't find it funny. I find Sheldon absolutely nauseating to watch.

I used to watch and enjoy it in the beginning, but I gave up on it, I don't think I've watched it in three years or so (same with Modern Family). From what you've described, it looks like I made the right decision!

My wife finds this show hilarious, & can watch the reruns over & over. Me, I can't figure out anymore why these guys are supposed to be misfits. They all have girlfriends now (out of their league ones at that), they all have high paying jobs they enjoy doing, and large amounts of free time and disposable income.

I still dig and watch the old reruns...but I'm probably done watching the new crap.

Never got into Modern Family. Sofia Vergara is nice to look at, but not to listen to...one of the world's most annoying voices and accents.

We still watch and love the show. The characters have had to develop over the ten year run. Although they are still geeks, or nerds, they had to explore more intimate human relationships as the show grew.
I would agree I enjoyed the show in the earlier seasons as they were pursuing the girls. I would also agree that the Raj character has soured on me. They should just make him gay and move on.
Still love the other characters and will faithfully watch every week

I just can't watch it, the nerd stereotypes aside, it's just so frigging FORMULAIC. Seriously, Sheldon is the reverse fonzie of the show with his stupid catchphrases, it irks me.

I'm alone on this here, the family watches it. The Bernadette girl is at least pleasing to my eyes.

As for Modern Family, it was a really clever show but it's gotten dumb too. It happens, I'm starting to think the British have so many great sitcoms because they barely rack up 20 shows.

Whenever a comedy introduces a baby/small child, you know its Jumped the Shark. There's many examples of this, like the Brady Bunch, The Cosby Show, Friends, Scrappy Doo, etc. Big Bang Theory is really showing its age, and while I still watch, it's sporadic and I'm usually folding laundry or something else while it's on. The characters had to grow and change, and the addition of two solid females to the cast kept it fresh for years beyond it's original appeal, but creatively, it's done. For the last couple of seasons, it's felt like the worst parts of "Friends," which also over stayed its welcome.

I came on board late and did not get started on new episodes until about season 5 or 6. Thankfully TBS plays a season a week so I was caught up in no time. I think the show started to decline with the introduction of Blossom to the mix. Amy Farrah Fowler was not a foil to Sheldon, she was the same thing. It was funny for a few episodes but got boring quick. She has become "smart Penny." Penny went from a non-educated, flaky, wannabe struggling actress to a business "power girl" drug rep, who doesn't seem to have a problem reminding Leonard that she makes "way more money" than he does despite the fact that for the first seven years of the show, Leonard and Sheldon practically supported her. She's a ******. The Wolowitz' story line has gotten stale since the baby and Raj and Stuart have become creepy (and not the funny creepy that Howard was in the beginning; Creepy creepy)

                          BUT...

I still watch. I still DVR new episodes and complain while I watch these unlikable characters in boring story lines flash on the screen. I'm part of the problem.
If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.

I'm not sure I want to watch the spin-off with a young Sheldon.

I think they did a great job expanding the main cast over the seasons and really having those characters add to the stories. I also love the many "special guest stars" over the seasons and the great supporting characters that show up from time-to-time, like Barry Kripke (I love every episode that Kripke shows up in!).

All that said, yeah, I agree......this season is starting to wear on me. These are characters that pulled us in by being in a state of "arrested development" and now they are moving on and it's just not as interesting to me.
