Isn't Speed racer huge in japan or something, they better hope they make some money there
I'd really like to see Iron Man again. There are very few movies I'll pay to see twice in the theater, but this is just a fantastic movie.

I wouldn't expect anything less.
I don't think I've EVER had a movie as hyped as this before I went to see it.
(which is a reason, by the way, that I feel it'll crack the top 15 Box Office
of All-Time most likely)"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

populace as a whole---its already a certified runaway hit---
and it is guaranteed (at this point) to continue to be
For me personally?
I tend to to think the IRON MAN movie will "basically" live up
to the hype for me.
I'm not that tough to please in this genre.
Case to ponder...
In the case of BATMAN BEGINS there was huge hype behind it---
and I wasn't that satisfied comparitively to the hype that those that
were making it out to be a perfect movie were selling it---
but the difference here between IRON MAN nad BATMAN BEGINS is
multi-faceted--the most important difference being the tone and wit
of the two scripts---I hear IRON MAN has a real nice consistent dry
sense of humor---and that'll go a LONG freakin' way with me while
watching it....I have a high need for some sort of wit/comedy in the flick
or there will be a letdown along the way
Bottom line:
I have high hopes for IRON MAN---mostly due to the reviews I have
heard---not from the Museum here really---but from friends who have
commented on the lighter side of this action movie which also has its
dark moments too....but even then, I hear the "wit" goes along way to
make THOSE fun too"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

OBSCURE SPOILER
Did anyone pick up on the song the band was playing during the award ceremony for Tony? When he was in the casino?
None other than this:
YouTube - Iron Man - Theme Song
Minus the lyrics of course. Which is too bad.
There wasn't anywhere near a full house at the matinee I saw last weekend, but there were quite a few little kids. One tot a row ahead and to the left spent nearly the entire movie turned around in his seat staring back at my wife. That was fun. A mom brought two sons probably in the 5-6yo range, and they were sitting a few rows directly in front of us. Immediately after the early love scene (such as it was) with the hot journalist, she angrily hauled them both out of there (popcorn spilling everywhere), never to return.
PG13, lady. And I see worse stuff at 8pm on network TV.Last edited by Sideshow Spock; May 21, '08, 12:02 PM.Comment

I'm a big fan of how the 67 Spidey theme made it into all 3 movies too.

I saw Iron Man for the third time last night. I haven't done that since Batman Returns, maybe? With DVDs available so quickly after the big screen release and Netflix, there really isn't any rush to go see a movie - unless it's an Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, or Indiana Jones. I saw previews of Speed Racer and decided to wait for Netflix. I'm still going to go and see Get Smart. Loved the TV with Don Adams and Barbara Feldman, Steve Carrell is hilarious - that right there is a win-win combination!
I saw Iron Man the Saturday night during opening weekend and the theatre was pretty well packed - even though it was showing nearly every half hour. Saw it Mother's Day afternoon, still pretty good sized crowd. Last night? Three people, including me in the theatre. From now on, I'm seeing all the movies I want to see either on Tuesday or Wednesday - especially at the Wehrenberg - where your concessions include BEER - in plastic bottles. That's heaven right there.Shameless self-promotion -

To those who have not yet seen the film but who hear it's the best superhero movie ever, I caution you that the action climax is a bit of a bit of a disappointment. Other than that it's gangbusters.Comment

Just my opinion.

Oddly enough, I found the climax to be just that: a big slug-fest! I mean, I loved the movie -- it's one of the best superhero films EVER -- but the ending felt like a big silly 1980s action scene a-la Robocop 2, just not as good. There was very little subtext, very little going on under the surface. Stain hates IM and wants to kill him. Pepper's contribution was minimal and strained. Stain has a bunch of tough-guy one-liners that Bridges pulls off admirably, but they're just tough-guy one-liners in a movie that felt like it had moved beyond that. Anyway, not to make too much of it. It's a damn fine movie except for about five minutes of goofy 80s action cliche one-on-one combat.Comment
