Superman has to be, far and away the most recognized...just the name alone has become a part of the worlds lexicon. (Theres a pun for you!!)
I'll bet theres tribes in the darkest jungles who know who Supes is...Might not recognize a drawing, but if you said he can fly and is really strong, Superman would be the first guess.

Since these folks probably dont have a Toys r us or a local bijou, I'm thinking they might not even know who Spidey or the Hulk even are? Possibly, Batman may even escape their recognition.

In that case I think it would have to be

    Superman...he went around the world.

Spidey's kinda stuck in high rise cities.

That's pretty much the point of my thread.

Not only people opinions from America, Europe, Australia, Latin America, etc...but in countries were this type of pop culture is not so well known.

I can pretty much see that a boy in California will recognize just about every single superhero ever created.

But to me, an opinion from a boy in a very poor Third World country on a favorite superhero, would keen my interest more and get a kick as to who he knows, and which of those superheros would be his favorite or most familiar.

    That's a tough one: I guess I'd go:

    Superman
    Batman
    Spiderman
    Hulk

But I really think the top 3 could change positions any time. Hulk is definitely 4th, though.

Superman - the most recognizable logo in comics; "up, up and away" among other catch phrases; the movie Spider-Man even referenced him (twice)!

Spidey/Bats tie - identifiable logos and catch phrases galore

Hulk - no identifiable logo puts him 4th

I'm not so sure about the Hulk, maybe for our generation he'd be in the top 4, but I'm thinking for today's modern audience, he could easily be replaced by Wolverine, who seems to have enjoyed a more steady exposure than the Hulk (in comics, film, TV and merchandise) over the last 20 years.

    Agreed With everything Here..

Based on the number of incarnations of Batman over the years and given that Kevin Conroy has been employed for eons, I would have to put Batman at number one. Supes has paid the price for being a perpetual "goody-goody" as times have changed, but Batman is who he is. No identity crisis.

Taking all of comics history into consideration, modern and somewhat-recent past, I would put Batman #1 in terms of success (based on consistency), Supes #2, Spidey #3 (relative late comer by a generation), and Hulk a distant 4th.

    I'd say

    1. Superman
    2. Spider-man
    3. Batman
    4. The Hulk

This is taking into consideration international recognition. My wife is from Japan and although she knows the first 3, she never heard of the Hulk before she knew me. Actually the same goes for most other heroes, including Wonder Woman (and I find the same thing with other Japanese people I talk too. And Japan is pretty hip on US pop culture in many ways, so think about a lot of the other countries out there that are most certainly NOT). I think when you consider the whole world, and consider all the people that have had zero exposure to US comic books, Supes, Spidey and Bats are it. All the others are blips on the radar in comparison.
