Honestly, I was turned off by the use of cartoony CGI for the race scenes, as well as a total disregard for the laws of physics, when I saw the previews but my nephew wanted to see it tonight. So after seeing it I have to say you could do worse than give it a chance. It is very fast paced and throws a lot at you but I think it's pretty good. It's a bit long but I actually only felt it in the beginning. After they get going for a while I think it runs smoother. In some scenes they duplicate animae and manga effects with live action and cgi.

So maybe you don't want to see it for full price? Take your kids to a early, cheaper matinee. I think if you see it with kids you'll see it more through their eyes. My nephew and the kid next to him were really enjoying it. Don't be so jaded. Just see it for some fun escapism.

I don't want to see it for full price, I don't want to see it for half price and I don't want to see it for free. I just don't want to see it period! I don't think I'm jaded either, just sick of crap movies. I'm glad your nephew and his buddy liked it though, at least it wasn't a waste of money for you. The most surprising thing for me is that it was up against a pretty weak batch of movies (OTHER than Iron Man), how bad would this movie do against some stronger compitition? does anybody think this will totally sink any careers? The main actor was riding high off of "Into the Wild", but the Walchoski brothers last two (Matrix 2+3) were pretty much universally disliked, if I was a studio I don't think I'd give them a boatload of cash based on the succsess of 1 film from a decade ago (matrix)

We pulled zeros for our first 2 showings on Friday. That's no mean feat. Even most small movies do a few people in the afternoon. Iron Man is killing it. I'm not surprised, though. It seems to appeal to one demographic: 7 yr. old boys.

I bet my local Wal-Mart Manager is punching himself/herself in the face, right now.

It is a brand new Supercenter with absolutely NO Iron Man merch (not even a beach towel!) and an entire section devoted to Speed Racer for the last three-weeks.

Oh, well....you can mark down crap, but it is still crap.

Exactly... Speed Racer we have aisles full and 2 displays on the floor AND 2 displays sitting in back. Iron man we have one 2 foot section, Bat Man and Indiana Jones have more movie merch. out. Geeezzzz.

My son wants to see it, so at some point I'll take him. To me it looks much like Alvin and the Chimpmunks: "family entertainment" thats really JUST geared to the kids. But I've suffered through far worse (we saw "Doogle"...UGH).

I actually feel sorry for retailers. The toys are nice (my son has the $10 Mach 5 and Speed set), but MAN every store over-ordered. The TRU in Lexington, KY had Iron Man, Indy, DK and Hulk toys on one endcap, and had that big intro section of nothing but Speed Racer. Uh oh.

Speed Racer means nothing to me, I didn't grow up watching this cartoon and when I saw it as an adult, I wasn't a big fan. I found it strange they made a big budget version of this. My kids don't know who he is either.

The movie is high concept by the looks of things, it reminds me of Popeye, Barbarella or Danger:Diabolik with more money, these types of films never draw in the crowds.

I liked it as a kid but it all ended there. I really don't find the movie or toy line Appealing at all.

One of the first cartoons I ever remember watching is Speed Racer, so it's nostalgic for me. That said, I'm sure I'll see it on DVD, but think I'll probably skip the theater.
