I don't get to watch TV that much anymore these days, but I do enjoy being able to kick on NETFLIX and watch pretty much what I want to watch when I want to watch it. I guess I'm just not too hard to please! If it's a movie that I really want, I can usually find that ON DEMAND or I'll go pick up a copy from our local gently used DVD and CD shop, BUYBACKS.sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.Comment

Yeah, I'm not really buying much media these days, but there are times at yard sales where if a movie's a buck or two and I know I'll watch it once, I'll buy it just because that's basically less than a rental or pay-per-view. I could just throw the disc away when I'm done with it and still feel like I came out ahead (not that I ever throw them away...)Comment

I cancelled my sub with Netflix when it started dropping off. There's literally nothing at all in the UK one. I just switched to KODI. A wealth of entertainment and no charges. Nuff said.Comment

all the piracy thru Kodi will get shut down eventually. The third party infringement is rampant on it.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

^^ Oh that's for sure, but until that day comes I'm happy to plod along with it. I still buy hard copies and have a 1,500+ collection of blu-rays.Comment

Weird - these days when I have time to watch TV I almost exclusively watch Netflix. I like their original stuff, the movies are just a bonus, and I think there's tons of docs and movies I don't have time to even get to.
Lady Dynamite is easily one of my favorite new shows.
BoJack Season 3 was outstanding.
I thought Jessica Jones was great.
They brought back Bob and David last year.
The new Pee-Wee movie was so much fun.
There's a new David Cross stand up special.
Everyone keeps freaking out about Stranger Things, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet.
Kimmy Schmidt and Love were both enjoyable.
Master of None was great, and that's getting a new season now.
As mentioned, Netflix Canada has the new Star Wars movie, it also seems to have added like, every Star Trek series now. I think the original series is the remastered version with new FX and music though. I could be wrong. I don't know if that stuff is on the US version.Comment

Netflix went into original content because studio library licensing was turning into an extortion bidding war. Hulu is co-jointly owned by the studios, so it's a laundering operation. Amazon and Apple wanted to drive Netflix out, so they started offering absurd numbers for licenses that they new Netflix didn't want to pay.
The point was to force Netflix to sell and enclose streaming distribution. Since Apple owns a large share of Disney and Amazon is wholesale distributor, it was an attemp guarantee the other revenue streams wouldn't be disrupted. Hastings realized he only had one other option, produce original content, and here we are.
So if you want deep library content, Hulu or Amazon is where you will eventually end up. YouTube was making deep inroads by using MGM and older media, but it was a wash.Comment

I've been very happy with the original content that Netflix has, so for that alone, I'll continue to support them. Amazon Prime has some great original programing too, they aren't as extensive as Netflix, but the fact that their fee includes free two day shipping plus Amazon Music (not nearly as extensive as Spotify but it's a bonus) makes it worth it as well. Plus I'm already invested in the Amazon ecosystem with their Echo speaker, Fire TV, Fire tablet, etc.
Sure, Kodi is free, but I haven't been impressed with their presentation, far from HD quality video, plus issues with dropped frames, etc. (very noticable on a 70" TV), I guess you get what you pay for.Netflix and Amazon on the other hand have great HD streaming quality, so to me it's worth the money.

We didn't get Netflix until the Marvel series launched, and have had it since then. Between original programs and what classic TV they have that I want to watch or re-watch (things like classic Battlestar, Trek TOS, Kolchak, etc.) and don't own on DVD or Blue-Ray, here is enough to make it worth my while even if I never watch a movie on it. My wife finds even more stuff she likes, so for the most part we're satisfied. We have Amazon Prime as well, but dropped Hulu when we got Netflix. SO I have no context to say whether Netflix has gotten worse or not, but for what I want out of it, it has been worth the price for us.

There's such a backlog of shows that I want to watch on Netflix, that I think it's a great system for my lifestyle. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I prefer streaming television shows to movies. It's easier to find 30-60 minutes to watch a show than it is to find 90-120 minutes to watch a movie. Plus, with an iPad and bluetooth headphones, putting an hour in on the treadmill every night is easier knowing that I can watch 2 1/2 hour shows, or 1 hour long one every night. While if I were looking specifically for movies, I think I'd find Netflix lacking, for quality television choices, it works.
As an Amazon Prime member, I love having the ability to stream some shows. But, to be honest, I don't think their catalog is deep enough for me to want to ditch Netflix for it, and I don't think I'd pay for the Amazon streaming if I wasn't getting the shipping free.
And, because I have a kid, we've still got cable with HBO and a bunch of other premium channels. I definitely spend way too much in total on all these entertainment options, but I feel like we use them enough in our household to at least partially justify it.Comment

It drives me crazy that we can't get Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Hulu in Canada yet. A lot of that has to do with Canadian regulations that require the broadcasters to dedicate a percentage of their time Canadian content. It's all very well meaning, but extremely archaic. For example, Netflix complies with the regulations by dedicating a percentage of their content to Canadian shows and movies, but nobody knows what percentage of those shows people in Canada are actually watching. The Canadian government tried to force Netflix to give up their ratings (a notoriously guarded secret) and Netflix was like, 'nope - never going to happen'. Netflix was ready to battle it in the courts, but I think the government relented a bit, for now. It's all just a matter of time...I hope.
