Columbus Toy Show Sept. 11 2016-Columbus OH-anyone going?

I saw another poster mention having attended this show in the past in a post on the Glow in the dark monster thread, and have noticed a lot of active posters from Ohio and nearby states. I met the promoter/organizer of this show when he had a table at the Ohio Toy and Comic Show I attended in July, and he mentioned there is a large contingent of Mego collectors who attend this show and dealers who carry a lot of Mego stuff a this show, and I am planning on attending for the first time this September (I'm about 45 minutes west of Columbus on I70-about halfway to Dayton) and was wondering if anyone else here is planning on attending or has advice on the show if they have attended in the past-dealers to check out, dealers to avoid, places for lunch, parking, etc.

If anyone is going and wants to say hi while at the show, drop me a note or post here, and any thoughts, advice or concerns on the show posted here would be appreciated.

I have attended this show for years, and often have had a table or two. I probably won't be attending this year due to my son's football game conflicting unfortunately. James Ford the show runner is a great guy and he usually manages to pull about half a dozen dealers that have some quality Mego pieces. I have never found any reason to avoid any of them. Eat a good breakfast and pay for the early bird entry. I'll leave lunch food recommendations to some of my other fellow locals.

I'd love to go to this but my new job starts on the 6th so I need to get paid before I can think about attending. Been wanting to go for years.
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

We've been talking about driving up for the day. Had a blast at the spring show in 2015. Got some great stuff too, and got to hang with some of my Mego peeps.

I usually go; did a table once or twice.

          What Steve said.

Also, I always like to mention that our art museum has free admission on Sundays, and it's currently featuring a Picasso exhibit. Re: lunch - the only thing right near the show is an Italian bakery, and it's closed on Sundays. However, Cols is a food town and you'll find whatever you're in the mood for. I'd just Yelp it.

Our default for food in Columbus is usually the North Shore Market across from the convention center (have attended many, many Origins cons at that convention center), but I am not sure how close the toy show is from the downtown area (also Big Fun is just down the street from the market and it's one of my favorite vintage toy stores).

The show is now about 10 minutes north of the downtown. It's just off of I-71 east of OSU. If you do the North Market, maybe go upstairs and see how long the line is for Hot Chicken Takeover. That's the new big thing; their food truck was just voted best in Cols (I believe).

Pay the early Bird no matter the cost...these shows often have "room sales" the night before show amongst the vendors, maybe find out where the vendors are staying and crash the party ha!...consider offering your services to a vendor with setup help so you can get in before early bird...at the very least pay the Early Bird rate!...anything rare will be gone imo before general admission begins. Good luck and happy hunting!

I think I'm going. It's a great show as others have said.

One of the local Springfield/Columbus area dealers posted he will have these available for sale at the show...

They look interesting, but as a complete newbie to serious toy collecting, I know little to nothing about these other than having heard the name Tomland Monsters mentioned here and there. Can anyone offer any insight or point me to a reference on these?

That palitoy fella knows a lot about these guys:

Tomland Star Raiders, Famous Monsters of Legend, Creatures from Unknown Worlds and Star Command were a rare 8 inch mego like action figure line produced from 1975-6 onward into early 1980s

Here's the haul from the toy show...

a handful of Micronauts stuff, a couple of BSG ships, Intruder, some Conan and Burroughs figures, the Superman form the 30s to the 70s hardcover and a handful of other comics, and a Flash Gordon novel.
