Anton Yelchin (new Star Trek Chekov) just died in a car accident.
He was only 27.

Very weird accident.
I liked him as a kid actor, but something about him in recent movies bugged me. His delivery or something. I'm looking forward to checking out Green Room which looks brutal.

Oh my goodness...what horrific news, only 27 years old...and in such a freak of an accident...
I had no idea he was an actual Russian who had migrated to the States at age six...that explains his nice accent as Chekov.
He was great in the movie Alpha Dog...but as we all know here...we will forever know him as the new Pavel Chekov.
Life is so friggin fragile.

Can you imagine how giddy and stoked he must've been? One month before seeing himself in the movie...in front of his fans...his parents, family, friends, co stars...the timing makes it sadder and more tragic by the moment.Last edited by Hector; Jun 19, '16, 3:55 PM.sigpicComment

Nationally, Anton Yelchin's parents were the third-ranked pair team; they thus qualified for the 1972 Winter Olympics, but were not permitted to participate by the Soviet authorities (Yelchin has said the reason was unclear: "I don't exactly know what that was – because they were Jewish or because the KGB didn't want them to travel"). His family moved to the United States in September 1989, when Anton was six months old, after receiving political refugee status from the United States Department of State. Yelchin's mother worked as a figure skating choreographer and his father as a figure skating coach, having been Sasha Cohen's first trainer. Yelchin's uncle is the children's author and painter Eugene Yelchin.sigpicComment

I was about to start a thread thus. It's tragic, I liked Yelchin as a performer and thought his Chekov was great.
