Favourite Monkee's Song Thread

I'd have to go for (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone, Valleri, You Just May Be The One and a left fielder Daddy's Song from HEAD! Loved the show as a child and despite the whole manufactured accusations still regard them as a 'band'. I've seen everyone from The Stones and The Who through to Prince, Bowie, Cream and The Clash but still rate seeing the full original Monkees line-up in London about 20 years back as one of the greatest gigs and nights of my life. Nesmith was there but blobbed out after a few gigs so count myself lucky to have seen them all in action together on the same stage.

I was pretty sure Nesmith was going to drop out. So, I flew from NYC to England to see a few of those shows in 97. Glad I did since it was the only time since the 60s that the 4 of them did concerts together.
As to a favorite song, I could not pick one, as I have ben a fan too long. I probably could not pick a favorite Beatles song either, although I always tell people it is You Know My Name, Look Up the Number.

Gotta disagree. I always thought Mike had a great voice and modulated his voice well. His lead songs are my favorites overall.

If the Monkees has a Ringo, vocally, it's Peter, just due to his voice. There's a reason he only sang lead a handful of times.

His voice and style gave him a bit of a Ringo Starr in the Beatles feel ... meaning he's ok for once in a while as a novelty but not too often.

I'm a huge Michael Nesmith fan so this is easy....

Has a bit of a Buck Owens feel to it.

Mine is "What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round?", which to me shows just how varied the Monkees could be, as it feels much more like a folk rock song, yet they easily transitioned into "Day Dream Believer," etc.

Most of Nesmith's songs, whether he wrote them or just sang them, had a country twang. He is from Texas after all.

It's really tough for me to pick a favorite since The Monkees are one of my all-time favorites. But this song tends to be the one that sticks with me most when I think of "favorite". It's an odd one, but for some reason I have a strong connection to this song. "Tapioca Tundra" by Mike Nesmith.

Randy Scouse Git is also known as Alternate Title. It appears on the tv a few times. Once in what I always called "the rainbow room" were the guys appear to actually be playing the song. The song starts and ends with Mickey playing kettle drums. In the sequence I referenced, at one point he points his hand over his mouth to humorously point out he's lip synching the song.

It's a great song. Written by Mickey for the Headquarters album and best of all The Monkees actually played the music!
