I'm beginning to think my house is haunted...

Okay, so my wife and I moved into this house in December of 2013, and for the past two years absolutely nothing out of the ordinary has happened...then about six months ago we started doing renovations, and little things started happening.

Objects would disappear...stupid things like a bottle of my model paint, or a kitchen utensil, even knick knacks off the dresser...then days later they would reappear EXACTLY where we left them originally.

Then on several separate occasions either my wife or I have heard what sounds like a child giggling coming from somewhere in the house. You have no idea how completely unsettling that is until it happens. It totally freaks you out.

In the last two weeks it's gotten worse. My wife and I have both experienced terrifying events at night. I was in bed and felt her sit down behind me, I rolled over and she wasn't there. She had gotten up to go to the bathroom. The same thing happened to her. She claims she heard me walk into the bedroom at about 2:30 A.M. and felt me get into bed beside her. She reached over and I wasn't there. I had fallen asleep on the couch downstairs watching TV.

Last night something else happened. I was downstairs again watching TV...my wife was in bed sound asleep...I could hear her snoring. All of a sudden, the front door handle jiggles as if someone's trying to turn it. Problem is, we have a glass patio door too. You cant even try to open the inside door without first opening the outside door. Needless to say I just froze. I sat there, and after about ten seconds it jiggled again. That's when I said screw this, shut the TV off and went upstairs.

We've both tried to look for rational explanations for this stuff, but it's all very strange and creepy. The weird thing is, this house isn't that old...it was built in the 1970's and as far as we know nobody ever died here.

We used to live in a house that had weird crap like that happen, it was creepy. The house itself wasn't very old but the location where it was built was where a very bloody battle was fought during the war of 1812. Luckily we only lived there a few months, my parents were renting it for a period between selling and buying a house.

Hey, PM me if you want. Last year, I researched and wrote a book on hauntings in my community after interviewing dozens of people. I've heard stories about a lot of the things you described. Renovations do stir this stuff up -- I got some really wild stories from a former contractor I know, and he says every guy in that business has such stories. I've also personally had some experiences similar to some of what you described.

I associated the activity with the renovations, but that was also around the time when I sold off my collection and started heavily buying model kits. I've been buying regularly from the estate find of a former owner of a hobby shop that passed away. He had all these sealed kits from the 60's stashed away for his grandson, but for some reason never gave them to the kid. Maybe the former owner is still attached to them?

Definitely some weird goings on, Dwayne. Perhaps it's time to call the Winchester boys or the Ghostbusters .

I'm a firm believer that there are definitely forces or entities which exist just outside of our range of perception. I've seen my cats sit a stare at a spot for an hour and I can definitely see their eyes tracking something I can't see. Dogs do it, too, but not quite as often, as do babies. I'm prone to thinking animals can perceive and see things we, as humans, cannot.

I do think humans CAN see this extranatural (as opposed to to supernatural) activity, but only when we're very, very young and again when we are very, very old or perhaps on the threshold of transitioning to a distinctly different plane of existence. It would explain why babies often stare at seemingly empty space and smile and wave and why the elderly often see and speak to those who have passed just before they themselves pass.

While your house's structure may not be visited or "haunted" by extranatural forces, it's position could be at the crossroads of some type of lay lines or perhaps something occurred on the land upon which your house/subdivision was constructed many decades prior (ala "Poltergeist" where the developers moved headstones of the people buried there but not the actual bodies).

As always, I think Shakespeare said it best: "The are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Only a few days ago I watched a programme on the paranormal where a couple had started to renovate their house and were having strange experiences. They called in one of the top dogs in the paranormal field and she claimed there was a woman living upstairs in the main bedroom who was ****ed about the changes being made to the house. Literally 3 or 4 days ago I watched that. Chances are that you've stirred something up (if you believe in that sort of thing).

There was a story on This American Life about a famous haunted house. Believe it or not, the root cause was found to be carbon monoxide poisoning. May be something to check out.

The model paint is one thing, but if they start mess with your built kits, TIME TO MOVE! No artist needs that headache.

Definitely freaky. Do you have neighbors close to you? Any weirdness with them?

Well in that case, you must be attracting them. Too many toys! Too many toys! Now go back to making them monsters.
