    2016 Garage/tag/estate sales

    no thread on this yet?

here is todays pick up. it's rare I find anything Beatles on vinyl at a sale, but I got these for a buck a piece this morning. Rubber Soul was still in it's original shrink wrap but I took it off because it was pretty dirty and gross

All things must pass had all 3 records, sleeves and the poster. box is a little beat but for a buck, who cares

Poster alone in the ATMP Box is worth more than what you paid for the 2 albums. Is the Rubber Soul a lime green, Apple, orange label, purple label, or is it a black and rainbow label? First 4 I mentioned are re-issues and the Black with rainbow could be an original or at the very least a last issue of the album in 1988. I'm more curious than I am concerned about not getting your money's worth The re-issues of the original release were in the order lime green, Apple, orange label, purple label, and black and rainbow label. The lime green Capitol would be a record club issue which is very sought after by Beatles Collectors. Record Club issues are really tough to find with the lime green label because it was only available for about a year.

it is lime green capital. unfortunately, the LP is a little warped. first song on side 2 (It's Only Love) skips. but otherwise Album plays well with some normal pops and static

I don't think any of the Orange or Purple label album covers had the FILE UNDER BEATLES top strip.

I haven't been to many this year. It last week I did score 15 records for $1 each. Most of the were Sun Records including Johnny Cash's Blue Guitar album (1st pressing). I sold it for $50.

The rest of the Sun Records are Jerry Lee Lewis' records and LPs, except for one Sun Records test album. I thought I hit pay dirt. I forget the name. I get home and look it up, it's not worth very much.

Picked up a box of Action Jackson clothes & accessories, along with a Mego bendy Robin. All in decent condition for $15.
Last week I found a Fun World Abraham Lincoln still on the card & a Remco Ronald McDonald missing the card but still in the blister bubble...both for $10.00!
Always looking at sales, thrift stores, etc for signed books...recent finds include Anne Murray, Gene Simmons, Jimmy Buffett, Lawrence Taylor, John McCain, and Jim Lovell.

There is a way to fix warpage on an LP. I haven't tried it myself. It actually involves heating up the record in an oven...yeah, I know. I'd probably ruin it. I'd try putting the record back in the sleeve and then piling some heavy books on it so that they cover the entire surface of the LP cover. Let it sit for a month and then try to play it again. Might work. It's a shame because those lime greens are a hard find.

yeah I was looking at some tutorials on youtube for it. doesn't look to difficult but I am a little leery of trying. will have to see if I can find 2 pieces of glass the right size and give it a shot

Let me know how it goes...I'm very curious to see if it really works. I have about 10 records that have slight warpage that I'd like to try this on.

This weekend I found a mint copy of Prince's Purple Rain with the plastic still on it with the poster. Looks like it was only played once. Since everyone seems to suddenly like Prince now that he's passed maybe ill sell it..

I've heard about this too but never tried it. I'd try it out a few times on a few that're not valuable to make sure I got the oven temp and amount of time down. I've also heard about placing it between glass then setting it in the sun for a short period. I've only read it works but never knew anyone who actually tried it.

                          Just had a crazy thought.

Instead of putting the record in an oven how about lightly panfrying it with a tad of evoo ?

The sad thing is, it might have been the shrink wrap that caused the warpage in the first place. Oftentimes the original shrink warp, if left on, will continue to shrink over time, eventually constricting the record sleeve until it finally bends the vinyl. While the cover winds up well-preserved, the record itself may never play right again.

yeah, the shrink wrap was pretty loose, I removed it because it was so dirty and nasty but it had protected the sleeve. I am still hesitant to try the oven bit. my oven's lowest setting is 200 and most of the tutorials I watched on youtube recommend a lower temp. one guy even took the record and put it between 2 pieces of glass and stuck it in his car in the hot sun for a couple hours. don't know I would try that either. I think the key is consistent temperature
