Seventeen years old and driving across Australia from my hometown of Perth to Sydney. I stop for gas at a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere and the cashier calls my name. I thought there was some kind of mistake, because I really don't know this bloke, but he seemed to know all my friends and the places I hung out. Working at a roadhouse in outback Australia, this guy REALLY wanted to chat to a familiar face, but that was over 30 years ago and I still have no idea who that bloke was.

When I was nineteen, living in Sydney, there was a redheaded fella who would pop up all over town and start conversations with me. He clearly knew who I was, but I had no idea about him. In a pub I'd never been to before - ginger. On a train somewhere - ginger. In a shop 30km away from home - ginger. It was the oddest thing.

On Facebook I'm friends with about 10 people I'm supposed to know.

Yup! I think I'm partially senile, plus it seems I blocked out a lot from high school.

Recently I had a awkward moment with a girl from high school who I can not remember for my life. Never once have either of us communicated or responded to anything the other has posted, not in 8 years we've been "friends", but suddenly she posted an angry response to something I wrote and then typed a small rant about what I said on her wall. I didn't respond, I just unfriended her to avoid further drama, then I got an angry PM ranting about unfriending her.

I assume certain people just like to expand their contact list? I've gotten some weird requests over the years. A guy I worked with years ago even though we openly disliked each other. An ex-client who ripped me off for nearly a grand. I don't get it.
