Seventeen years old and driving across Australia from my hometown of Perth to Sydney. I stop for gas at a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere and the cashier calls my name. I thought there was some kind of mistake, because I really don't know this bloke, but he seemed to know all my friends and the places I hung out. Working at a roadhouse in outback Australia, this guy REALLY wanted to chat to a familiar face, but that was over 30 years ago and I still have no idea who that bloke was.
When I was nineteen, living in Sydney, there was a redheaded fella who would pop up all over town and start conversations with me. He clearly knew who I was, but I had no idea about him. In a pub I'd never been to before - ginger. On a train somewhere - ginger. In a shop 30km away from home - ginger. It was the oddest thing.
On Facebook I'm friends with about 10 people I'm supposed to know.
