I recently watched an interesting pretty recent movie on youtube but I forgot the title.

Plot was basically two families trapped in a house they both want to buy.

Everyday they are there the food cupboard miraculously has enough food for them to eat each day.

I won't give away the ending but it was at least interesting and different.

Really enjoyed this one more than I expected
I caught that a couple of years ago, it was quite good although my wife couldn't make it. The best part about it to me was the kid, he wasn't some magical wise old sage, just a kid.

Rented Me and Earl and the Dying Girl a couple weeks back, and I think it's the best film I've seen all year. Funny and moving..

The films I seen this week

          Dope 7.5/10
Good movie, I'm not the targeted demographic but your teenagers are going to love it.

          Mockingjay part 2 6/10
Much better than part 1 but I felt the series ended with a whisper rather than not a bang.

          Spotlight 7/10
Pretty good acting and a good story.
Not a mainstream movie and not everyones cup of tea.

I had an entire week alone off work, so I binged. I'll give ratings not to compare the films to each other, but to compare them to my expectations and whether they achieve their goal.

            Superman v. Batman 2/10 - A raincloud of a movie. I don't want to discuss it.

San Andreas (3D) 7.5/10 - decent destruction actioner. The Rock's daughter in the film is stunning. So is Carla Gugino. So is the Rock, for that matter. Watch it for the beautiful people and symphonic destruction.

Bone Tomahawk 8.5/10 - Western with Kurt Russel. Watch this! Don't read about it. Don't read the back of the dvd case. Just watch it. Your jaw will drop. Not for the squeamish.

Shoot 'Em Up 8.5/10 - I wanted a movie with lots of bullets to crank up my home theater. This was just what the doctor ordered. It's got heart too. And Monica Belluci is easy on the eyes.

Captain America (1990) 7/10 - It's not half bad, really. Very watchable when you accept the budget limitations.

Pieces (1982) 8/10 - Insane grindhouse chainsaw slasher. Watch it with buddies and have a howl. Hilarious ending.

Torso (1973) 9/10 - Loved this. Italian Giallo with an amazing score, and about a half dozen beautiful victims. Excellent photography.

The Devil's Wedding Night (1973) 8/10 - Uhhh... Guilty pleasure? Gothic Vampire movie. Mark Damon (no, not Matt) plays twin brothers, one of which gets seduced by an Elizabeth Bathory type Vamp who wants to reincarnate Count Dracula in his body. Lots of blood and flesh. A little more extreme than Hammer.

The Mutilator (1985) - 8/10 South Carolina shot beach house slasher. Rather endearing, actually.

The Prowler (1981) - 8/10 Staple of the Slasher genre. Tom Savini's effects are really just magic tricks on film. The art of illusion.

Hell of the Living Dead (1980) Can't Rate This. So bad it's great!!! Dawn of the Dead ripoff, even steals the score from Dawn of the Dead. Watch with friends and wet your pants laughing.

Living Dead in the Manchester Morgue (1974) - (AKA Let Sleeping Corpses Lie) 9/10 - Great, atmospheric zombie film! There's only a handful of zombies, but it fills a critical gap between Night of the Living Dead ('68) and Dawn of the Dead ('78). Highly recommended.

Strange Color of Your Body's Tears (2013) - 4/10 French modern take on the Giallo. I so, so badly wanted to like this. It's stunningly gorgeous to look at and listen to, but the sum of the parts don't add up to any narrative worth caring about.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (10/10) - Stop and smell the roses. I can't believe we got such a fun, moving, well-crafted Star Wars film in 2016. John Williams' theme for Rey alone elevates the whole thing. A gift to enjoy.

Messiah of Evil (1973) - 9/10 - Horror slow-burn, oozing with atmosphere and some genuine chills. Do the names Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck ring a bell? They worked on American Grafitti, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Howard the Duck for George Lucas. Before that, they did this dreamlike, low budget, but beautifully photographed mood piece. Reminds me of a black and white comic horror magazine come put to film. Recommended.

John Wick (2014) - 9/10 - Like your action nonstop? Look no further. I would not mess with Keanu Reeves. I seriously think he could take down Liam Neeson, and that's saying something. Looking forward to the sequel.

Air Force One (1997) 9/10 - Can we elect President Ford? Harrison Ford, that is. What a fun piece of 90s action! God, I miss Jerry Goldsmith scores.

Face/Off (1997) 9/10 - Just a tad overlong, but I'm one of the handful of people who loves Nicholas Cage for his unpredictability. Again, good 90s fun to be had here.

Drive (2011) 6/10 - Felt like a TV movie. I honestly didn't get what all the fuss was about. Good performances, but... meh.

Blood on Satan's Claw (1971) 7/10 - Decent British witch movie. Really well-regarded, but not enough chills to get me to buy the foreign blu-ray. I liked it, but expected more based on its good reputation.

The Boogeyman (1980) 8/10 - Put Halloween, the Exorcist, and Amityville Horror in a blender and you have this decent horror cheapie. Turn off brain and enjoy.

Big Hero 6 (3D) 10/10 - Just a delight. Stay for the Epic post credits sequence. Would love a sequel. Better Superhero animated family fare than the overrated, and much loved Incredibles.

Deep Red (1975) 9/10 - Dario Argento Giallo with stunning photography and a decent whodunnit. I am really developing an appreciation for Argento.

Inferno (1980) 9/10 - Another Argento piece of eye candy. Don't worry about story. Just let the pretty colors wash over you and get ready for the big "BOO!" at the end.

Mad Max Fury Road 3D (2015) 8.5/10 - This is great! But waaay overrated.

Pixels (2015) - 9/10 This had me cracking up every 10 seconds. Harmless, giddy fun. Much maligned, I thought this was way better than its reputation.

I caught some of this the other night, I dozed off so I didn't finish it but I found it one of the jokier slasher pictures. I found it weirdly compelling.

From the bonus materials, it was the director's only film, and a labor of love, which comes through.

Yeah, it took me a little off guard because I was expecting more "run of the mill" and it wasn't typical.

Batman v Superman: 2/10 I'm still bummed about it two weeks later. I don't know what bugs me more: that it was terrible or that Warner Brothers film division has decided they no longer value my business.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: 8/10 Solid movie, better than the prequels, but it's just hard for them to capture the magic of the first trilogy because back then I was a kid and it was all new. What was really amazing is that I left the theater wanting more, so on that level it was a huge success.

He Never Died: 7/10 Small movie starring Henry Rollins as an immortal. Don't want to describe too much to give anything away, but this showed up on Netflix recently. Especially worth seeing if you like Henry Rollins, though he's a bit stiff.

Mad Max: Fury Road: 9.5/10 Extremely entertaining and full of memorable/original/breathtaking visuals. You practically have to spit the road dust out of your teeth after you watch it.

Lady Vengeance: 9/10 Movie by the director of Oldboy about a woman who was wrongfully convicted of a crime being released from prison and getting vengeance on the real murderer. Just awesome, but disturbing, too.

Ex Machina: 9/10 Great but low-key sci fi movie about a mysterious billionaire who enlists the help of one of his employees to test the artificial intelligence of a disturbingly attractive robot. Better than Force Awakens in my book.

The Invitation. 5/10. Not the worste I've seen, but still very drab. Slow burning attempt about a cult society that just ends like... Well we've seen it all before really.

The boy. 6.5/10. Pleasantly surprised with this one. Not what I expected.

Creed. 3/10. Second time I've seen this now and it only goes down in my ratings. Exactly what I expected and is nothing but a carbon copy of the first Rocky film.
