    Packing Up the Collection

Looking for some advice. I had my water heater explode a week ago. No injuries, but water everywhere that managed to get into the finished par of our basement, soaking the carpet and ruining it.The insurance company is paying to replace it (small win there) but it means all the furniture has to come out of the space, including my Mego case.

I've never had to pack the whole collection all up before -- who has advice or tips for the best way to put them away until I can set everything up again? I'm boxing up all the books and taking them to a storage facility for a few weeks. The Megos and Micronauts aren't leaving the house, but they'll need to be packed away until all the work downstairs is completed. I want to make sure they're put away right, so I don't have any unpleasant surprises when it's time to put them all back out again It sounds silly, I know, but it's making me anxious having to take them down and put them in a box. So, hoping to benefit from anyone's experience here. Thanks!

I store all my stuff in those large flat under-the-bed style plastic totes. I wrap my loose figures in tissue paper and lay them down.

I think storing them in a walk-in closet would be the best option because closets are generally a little cooler than the rest of the house's rooms.

I would place them in plastic tubs but be mindful of how you stack them inside so nothing is damaged. You want to get them out of that room quickly, because even if they have not been touched by water, they can absorb the moisture that's in the air as a result of the flooding so don't spend allot of time letting them sit in that environment.

plastic storage bins and bubble wrap, careful not to stack anything heavy on boxes or fragile items

Yeah I would go the plastic storage bin route. I got a whole tub of carded vintage figures that are waiting for a display case. I'll post pics when I get that set up. I would also recommend painting an unfinished basement floor with epoxy for to make for a cleaner space.

Last time I moved, I had 68 cardboard boxes of collectibles packed. I used 300 feet of bubble wrap.
