Household objects that became your toys

I was just sitting here thinking about folding chairs. Yes, that's what I said. When I was a kid, and we would have holiday dinners, my brothers would bring up the folding chairs from the basement for extra people. They sit in our apartment for a day or so afterwards. I'd always grab one, and it became a playground. It could be treehouse, or a slide, or I'd climb through the hole. If I played house, it was my window, or I could use it as a dollhouse. I always remember being sad when they had to go back to the basement, b/c we only used them during the holidays.

Were there any household items from your childhood that became your playthings?

I got a lot of use out of Reynolds Wrap. Used it as metal, ice, etc. I actually got in trouble for using a whole roll at one point. Not sure what I used it for that time.

There is no greater toy for a child than an empty box. Made many a haunted house, rocket ship, car, etc.

I was a big towel cape guy, I was crushed when my gf threw out a bunch of towels in the 90s because they were ragged. One of them had big hippie daisies and was my best Shazam cape growing up!

String and straws or paper clips make excellent zip lines for action figures. And growing up, we never bought any Mego playsets. Our dad made ours out of wood, and then we got wallpaper and carpet samples to finish them off. I'm sure there was lots of groovy shag carpeting and mod wallpapers in my Hall of Justice.

Egg Cartons became planes and spaceships for FP Little People. I was very happy with those.

The plastic netting that oranges came in became net/traps for GI Joes. Stuff like that.

Growing up we had a vacuum like the one pictured. When it broke down we used to use it playing with Star Wars figures.

My buddy and I wanted to play James Bond. He was Bond, I was the villain.
We had just seen Live and let Die, and I wanted to make a Teehee metal hook (which is a double gripping hook like a pincer).
Here's what I came up with: And old electrical socket jammed into a cardboard tube made up the main body, to slide over my hand. I snapped two plastic coat hangers, just keeping the two metal hooks. I then pushed the two hooks in, one in each socket hole. They neatly popped in and out, swiveled, and we imagined that if Bond pulled one out, it fired a bullet.
Kids, do NOT try this at home...
                            .
                            .
                            .
"When things are at their darkest, it's a brave man that can kick back and party."

One time I made a generic phaser out of a broken electric weedwacker handle.

I have to admit, that thing looked sharp
