I don't consider Die Hard or Batman returns or Gremlins to be Christmas movies. that is not what those movies are about, they just take place during the holiday. although I guess in fairness the same could be said about other movies on my list, LOL
I'll give you Die Hard and Batman Returns, but Gremlins is entirely about Christmas. It takes place during Christmas, the Mogwai was a Christmas gift, there's a whole "Scrooge" subplot, tons of Christmas music and the scariest part of the film is a story about the death of a Santa Claus. You honestly can't get anymore Christmas!

I'm putting "Scrooged" on my list. I'm surprised it's not on more lists. I'm also putting Fred Claus on my list as well.

This is my favorite version, too. But the Henry Winkler version "An American Christmas Carol" is also excellent. And of course the Alastair Sim version. Also fun is this cartoon from the early 1970's, which can be watched here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN6IMZFwY50

Scrooged is also great, no surprise there. But the one version I thought I'd love is the Patrick Stewart version. I really like him, obviously like story, but this one just left me remarkably flat. The Fonzie one is better.

I watch Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Elf, and The Hogfather. Those are the only ones I truly care about.

Sometimes I'll watch movies that take place at Christmas but aren't Christmas movies, such as Batman Returns, Gremlins, or Trading Places.

I love all the animated specials. But if we're talking actually movies, this is my list ( in no real order):

                            1) Scrooged
                            2) The Santa Clause
                            3) The Polar Express (love it)
                            4) Miracle on 34th Street (original with Natalie Wood)

Speaking of animated shorts, I really like one called "Bedtime for Sniffles" from 1940. It captures a certain magic I always held for Christmas while trying to stay up to see Santa. I came close a few times.

Can someone please explain to me why the magnificent, utterly gorgeous animated Richard Williams' version of A Christmas Carol has never been on DVD or blu-ray? Chuck Jones assisted with the animation, and Alistair Sim reprises his role as Scrooge. It is a Masterpiece, was released theatrically, and even won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 1972. I have a VHS of it I picked up from a dollar store in the 90s, that I transferred to DVD, but that's it. For everyone else, it's on youtube.
