Yeah I've always regarded it as having a "Comfort Food" appeal more than anything, pretty sure that it's holiday sincerity is a big part of why my dad likes it.

Least Favourite Christmas Movie?

Home Alone 1 & 2 are another couple that are classic yearly must-sees to my wife that I have no interest in.
Most Christmas movies are actually pretty terrible. The only 3 I can think of off hand that I really like watching every year - aside from some TV specials - are Elf, Bad Santa and Die Hard.
EDIT: I forgot Trading Places - I love it and we watch that every year too.Comment

I dunno...that's a hard one, 'cos I love (or at least like) most of the Christmas movies I see (and I'm a Hallmark movie sap and this is my favorite time of the year). I'll just say any movie that portrays Santa in a negative way."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

I respectfully disagree with people who don't like Jingle. I mean, it's crap - but it's fun crap...though yeah, Hartman is wasted in that role.
I'll go with Wonderful Life, though mainly because of overexposure.
For a sleeper pick, I recommend the Bogart version of We're no Angels. It's charming and subversive all at the same time. Bogart, Ustinov, Rathbone, Aldo Ray...good stuff.Comment

I agree. I dislike that movie, for a variety of reasons... including the ones you mentioned.
I also think it has a strangely sinister quality to it, although that might just be the Exorcist 3 connection.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

and my least favorite....The Santa Clause. Tim Allen to me is right up there with Sandler for annoying. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

Oh geez Brian, I am sorry to say that I love Jingle All the Way. Yes, Phil Hartman is wasted but I can't help myself. I also love Trapped in Paradise if that's any barometer.Comment

I'm a real sucker for Christmas movies. But I've never gotten through the Santa Clause, and I think Miracle on 34th St. is a bit overrated. But it's a Wonderful Life? It may not be the greatest Christmas movie, but it's a fantastic story of humanity and generosity and sacrifice.Comment
