    Adult Coloring Books

Wondering if anyone else is getting into these? I've seen several of them in both Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million and some are cool while other are---not so cool. I was actually fairly excited to hear about the one MARVEL put out featuring The Avengers. I finally had a chance to look at one in Books-A-Million last night and I kinda feel like they let the inkers go a little to "black" happy for this to be a decent "coloring" book. The one possibility I see with it would be people taking it apart, scanning the pages and using it to practice for digital coloring. There are a few others I've seen that I may pick up. Gonna have to get out my Berol Prismacolor pencils and start sharpening them up...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Actually, this weekend I won one with a set of colored pencils (and a bunch of other stuff) in a church raffle. I'll prob get around to doing a page someday, but there are so many other uses for my time...

Apparently this is becoming a "thing", I guess it's considered by many as a stress reliever.

When the thread said "adult", I imagined a Playboy coloring book...

Never heard of these. Does the term "adult" mean they're all laced with nudity or are the illustrations just more intricate? Pictures, if appropriate, would be helpful here.

I bought my niece one. And Tom, adult means that the pictures and designs are more intricate than those coloring books made for children. Kinda like the stain glass thing.

Aren't they called Marvel "essentials"? Those are some fat coloring books!

An old girlfriend's father had an idea for adult coloring books back in the late 80's. His thought was that they'd be good for nursing homes. We pitched it to a couple (even got competitive printing bids), but no one was interested. I guess he was ahead of his time.

My wife loves them. I ordered her a couple for her birthday this summer. Now, I'm seeing them everywhere.

Are they anything like the old Venus Paradise sets ?

                      Used to love them

My sister got her first adult coloring book at the local Walmart's a few months ago and finished it already with markers (she won't use crayons or colored pencils). Now she wants the others in the set. She is obsessed with marker coloring books and posters. She is also into those fuzzy velvet coloring posters.

I just can't get into them since I can't stay in the lines of a regular kid's coloring book anymore. Plus looking at them for too long makes me dizzy.

Coloring books like these have been around for decades; my mom always thought they were fun, and frequently stuck them in our Christmas socks. I don't know what accounts for their rise in popularity now, but I certainly don't think they relieve stress. In fact, coloring all those little spaces precisely with just the right colors would cause my stress level to go through the roof!
