My 4th grade teacher eventually quit at a young age to go into the family business of running a ma & pa convenience store in the area.
I used to frequent it often because it was the only convenience store in my town.
Even though he was only about 11 years older than me I would still call him Mr ____ when I went into his store as a grown up.
To this day I call him Mr. ____
I always felt odd because everybody else calls him by his first name.

Anyway, a few years later when I was teaching pre-school, I used to work at Gerber Children's Center (yes, like the baby food), and I was the head teacher of the toddler program. And guess who was in my class...Mr. Hoffman's son, Christopher. By that time, he insisted I call him Brian. He and his wife were pretty nice though. They even wrote a letter to the Gerber company about what a great teacher I was (blush) and I received a special letter of recognition and a pen and pencil set. Not bad for someone who nearly flunked one of his classes!
