no old toys at thriftshops anymore..anyone have any luck?

as some of you may remember that's pretty much what I'm doing for a living now..man it's getting tough to find anything vintage...I haven't found anything worth bragging about in a while..I find tons of stuff to sell just not vintage. This week I did see, 2 six million $ mans, 1 fuzzy head Joe, and 3 vintage Barbies.. but that's it.. what about you guys?

Yeah 70's vintage is drying up. I went to an antiques show last fall. And there was next to nothing and everything that was vintage was overpriced. There was a Tarzan Ben Cooper costume I wanted but those are hard to display and $25 isn't a steal. I also wasn't about to pay $20 for a Super friends viewmaster.
I will say there was alot more attractive women at this show than in years past and the IPA beer tent was cool, although I don't know who drinks at 10 am on a Saturday.

I think thrifting is becoming more socially acceptable but at the same time more people know what stuff is worth.

In Winter Haven I usually don't find anything good. Last stuff I found was Pulsar, 6MDM, Jonny Apollo for a buck each. We do find Cabbage Patch to refurbish.

Last thing I got at a resale shop was a rocket sippee cup, hoping I could use it for a custom Flash Gordon rocketship.

Barbie's and puzzles are the easiest things to find. The days of finding the big score I think are long gone. Between everyone looking for the good stuff, and the stores now knowing what they have , it's gotten tough. If by the way you are looking for mismatched glassware and 8 track tapes they are plentiful around our thrift stores .

It's not so much that it's "drying up"....It's more the fact that there a LOT more individuals out there doing what you are doing. I find vinyl/LP's all the time and get into conversations with other buyers and they ask what I've found and when I tell them they shake their heads like "Why would you buy that?" If you have knowledge of what you are looking for you are one step ahead of the competition. I laugh when I see these guys with their cell phones scanning barcodes...what happens when you go to scan an item and it has no barcode and you really don't know what it is Advantage ME!

This is due to the "reality" shows telling people that old stuff is worth money. Alot of the stuff is showing up on Ebay.

I really haven't had much time to thrift lately. I've also skipped a ton of yardsales as getting in and out of the car with a toddler on a hot day just doesn't seem worth it for the most part.

There are swap meets in my area but I can only find loose toy biz 5" figures from the 1990's, Happy meal toys loose, and packaged cheap imports sets with Batman ,
Spiderman and Power ranger like copies. Nothing but worthless junk
