So you have stores that just sell bagels? I am always amazed at how varied life is in different parts of our country.

Sesame seed, toasted, with bacon cream cheese, sliced fresh tomatoes, and black pepper. Is it wrong I do this with bagels from a from a good Jewish bakery?

I like Asiago cheese bagels, but if I feel like something sweet, I love some of those specialty bagels from Sara Lee, like Apple Pie!

Here in Oakland, we have Noah's Bagels. Right down the street from my job.

Man, I wish we had some authentic bagel shops in this vicinity, but, alas, donuts and pastries are more popular in the southern Indiana/Louisville area it seems. We do have a place here called "My Favorite Muffin" that actually produces some pretty good bagels (they have a blueberry bagel that, with the addition of just plain ol' cream cheese, is pretty tasty), but I remember a deli in Florida (yeah, Florida) that had a seven-grain bagel that was absolutely delicious, especially with a schmear of cheddar-jalepeno cream cheese! That and a plate of scrambled eggs was a great way to start (or end) a day!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Long Island and bagels are basically synonymous. I can't imagine living somewhere that there isn't 5 bagels stores in every town.

I'll say my #1 is a Bruegger's poppy seed w/ light cream cheese. Also in my top 5 are onion, egg & sesame. The aforementioned Panera's cinnamon crunch is also excellent, especially with creamy peanut butter. Try it.* Seriously.

*OK - if you're allergic to peanuts then please don't try it. It's good, but less good than breathing.

They use to have ads done here with Bill Engvall saying a bagel is just a biscuit with a hole in it.

I wish the South had bagel shops. There was one I stopped at when I was working in Boston after getting off at North Station. I don't remember the name but man, were they good. Nice and hot... I personally like just plain with either butter and jelly or just cream cheese.

Good thing cause I love them

Never did try lox - not really a fish guy.

                          Is lox fishy ?

There are a few bagel places near me, but the specific style I like best and kinda grew up on are in the suburbs.

Lox is very smokey and salty - I think only bad lox is fishy, but it's hard to say what you would consider fishy. I know some people who can't stand any fish. If you like fish and you like smoked meats I say try it!

Haha! Nope! I've done that myself, when I've had bacon and no lox!

I remember Long Island having great bagels. I haven't been in years though - I wish I remember the name of the place.

When I get lazy and buy them in the supermarket I can live with Lenders onion bagels
