I was lucky enough over the many years of being a media hound to have talked to him from time to time and enjoyed those times. Today I heard this over the radio while driving and I just about caused a wreck. Even though I knew he was sick, this just hit hard. I will always remember those Alien Voices recording that he autographed for me.

May he continue to prosper among the stars.

Sad news. A true great, master of his craft. He and Spock are forever associated with the positive outlook for the future that Star Trek showed to us. We are richer having experienced his talent, poorer that he will no longer brighten our lives though the screen. RIP Mr. Nimoy

I couldn't help but tear up a bit when I heard the news early this afternoon. I never met him but we all grew up with him as spock. It truly feels in my opinion the same way when a close loved one passes. He touched so many lives and was a unique individual. Rest In Peace Mr. Nimoy, and thank you for all the great moments you gave to us. You will be sadly missed by all of us, LLAP.

I think I'm going to cry. This is truly a sad day. Funny how someone who played a character void of emotion could invoke so much love. RIP Leonard. You are loved and you will truly be missed.

Sad that he's gone, but he was obviously suffering in his last days. In that light I never want to see anyone "live" like that. He's off to a better place and he's earned it.

As I'm sitting here typing this at 1:30 in the morning...I'm actually crying for the second time since hearing of his death. I can't believe I'm this upset about a person I never even met, and yet he has just always been a part of my life. Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of watching Star Trek with my dad, and at both my grandmother's houses when they would babysit us. It's amazing just how much you become attached to these people...you feel like you really know them. They travel with you, a constant companion throughout your life, and then suddenly, they're just gone.

I just hugged my life-sized Spock poster hanging by the door of my bedroom.

You know what's really sad? The word "iconic" has been used a lot today, (including by me), but will future generations ever really know anything iconic? We were all very fortunate to grow up when we did, b/c we knew things that remain iconic to this day. Those were the days full of imagination, innovation and wild creativity. With all the reality shows, social media, 500 cable and satellite channels, and I don't know how many digital radio channels, what is iconic anymore? I'm very grateful for people like Leonard Nimoy who gave us great memories, great catchphrases, great acting. He was iconic personified. To him and all the other iconic personalities of our time...thank you.

I watched "Journey to Babel" for the first time in many years last night. I know it sounds corny, but Nimoy's body of work is still there for us to reconnect with. That is reassuring. It's not logical, but it is so.

When I told my wife yesterday, we spent the rest of the evening in silence. No TV, no music. It just felt as if we needed to be silent for a while and think.
As said above, Nimoy and Spock transcended the word "iconic". They became part of a global awareness, like Mickey Mouse, Darth Vader and James Bond.
It also made a huge difference that Nimoy was a man you could admire, not just a guy saying the lines.
                              .
                              .
                              .

Nimoy was the only star trek actor I ever wanted to meet in person. Never did though. True Icon, no doubt. Set that course to Genesis, Mr. Nimoy.
