    Any Bourbon/Scotch freaks on here?

I am not a big drinker, but I appreciate the finer things in life. A year and a half ago, I won a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 20 year old bourbon. Before that, bourbon to me was some hillybilly crap that you mixed with coke. After winning that bottle, it got me wondering why 300 people would line up and wait 3 hours to get a bottle of bourbon. I started researching it, and just like wine, there is differences in bourbon, just like fine wines. The artist I am (and flipper), I could not bring myself to open that bottle of 20 year old bourbon, so I sold it. I snatched $800 for a bottle that the MSRP a year ago was $125 (and I let it go cheap).

I have since developed at taste for finer bourbons and scotches. I am actually a fan of scotch more than bourbon.

I realize there is good and bad bourbons and scotches.

Right now, my drink of choice is Balvenie 14 year old scotch.

Scotch and bourbon are both fine spirits, each with their own storied histories. I enjoy both, but lean a bit more towards the bourbon end of the spectrum. A really good Irish whiskey is hard to beat, too, if you've never tried it.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

"I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly..."

Sorry, you HAD to know that was coming.

Around these parts people are proud of their Canadian Rye Whisky. Personally I prefer Scotch. Not a fan of bourbon.

My favourite "affordable" Scotch brand is Glenmorangie. Haven't had a bad glass yet.

But here is the real question, we KNOW you don't add ice and are chilling the drink with stones but do you add a splash of water or keep it pure? I have had two Scotsmen show me both ways, each saying the other is daft.

A good scotch will not do this. The other night we had a work party with an open bar. The only scotch they had was Johnny Walker Red. I couldn't get past two sips, that stuff was nasty.

Now a good, single malt, aged scotch is the nectar of the gods.

As for ice, I have an ice baller, a large single ice ball. It has less melting surface than a bunch of ice cubes.

As for Jack D, that stuff is garbage compared to some other great bourbons (even in that price range)

Even though I don't care for Scotch I wouldn't throw away a freebee

Was helping my buddy's buddy move once and he gave me a bottle of Pinch.

I can honestly admit, it was pretty good

I always favored Bushmills myself. They do make a kind that's been aged in Spanish sherry casks that is quit delicious.

Never been a fan of either. But, for some reason, my friends think I am. Hence the several unopened (or, barely opened) gifted bottles of Jack and Johnny Walker Black (ugh) that only get busted out once or twice a year at parties. By the time that Johnny Walker is gone, it will probably have been aged for about 30 years.

Bourbon for me is too sweet, prefer whiskey with a bit of kick to it ,just on the rocks, although I know it should be drank with water etc. Favourite drink of all time, whiskey and ginger ale , but has to be schweppes Canada dry variant. But hey I drink anything, Im on the local stuff here at the moment made from coconuts lol...

You may just end up with some really nice scotch there. I found a bottle of JW red in my mom's cabinets when I helped her move many years ago. The bottle looked really odd to me and then I realized the price tag read something like 8.99 or so. !!! I realized it was something my dad had in there which would have been before 1975. It had been opened, but only looked to have one highball taken out. I chanced it, and it was one of the smoothest and mellowest scotches I have ever had; very much NOT the character of a typical JW bottle of red. Age certainly helps.

Yeah, I like bourbon and scotch but usually stick to Canadian Whisky. There's a distillery local to me that makes the kind I most often buy.
