I guess I was a 1, but a different kind of 1. The only one in advanced classes with gelled up spiked hair, played volleyball and tennis with the athletes and played dek hockey on the weekends wth the burnouts. I can guess you can say I was all mixed up. Still am!

I was #1 and #3, but I had friends of all types. I was class valedictorian (in a class of 640 students) and a 3 sport varsity athlete (basketball, track, cross county running). I went on to a perfect 4.0 in chemical engineering in college and was a varsity letter winner in track and cross country there as well.

I was into new wave in 1980, by 1983 in was hardcore punk. My friends and I were the first in our area to get into the mohawks, tattoos and stuff. At that time we were also skateing. That's how we got around. The punk scene was great back then and I had a blast. Got to see a lot of cool bands ,Ramones twice, GBH, Black Flagg, social distortion, Dead Kennedy's, Bad religion, circle jerks,C.O.C., and many others. I played drums in punk bands starting in 9th grade and got into clubs and opened for some of my favorite bands. I did well in school, was liked by the teachers and surprisingly enough my friends and I were pretty popular at school, almost celebrity statis. I think mostly because people just weren't used to seeing guys with 12 inch tall mohawks. Away from school was a different story. We were looked at with fear and disgust. As young kids we thought that was great too. Lot's of people wanted to fight us and my friend was almost killed by a group of guys that scalped him. After a night at the clubs My friend and I would go home and set up our gi joes and draw. Weird times.

          Hmmmm....

....read comics, played RPGs; shoulda been a nerd....

BUT.... I used to build all sorts of electronic widgets, showed up only for tests, passed with a low A average and knew more than most of my teachers, so I shoulda been a brain....

BUT.... I was also one of the stronger and tougher folks at the school, so maybe I shoulda been a jock....

BUT.... I also hung out with a lot of unsavory people, and got into a lot of fights, so maybe I shoulda been a burnout....

Ultimately nobody knew where I fit in, so I became "that guy." Which was fine; since I wasn't a real fan of interacting with my peers. (I definitely WAS, and AM, an angry recluse.)
