What's your favorite film version of "A Christmas Carol"?

Personally, I love the George C. Scott version. It really captures the Dickens era the best, IMO and I think George C. Scott is the best Ebeneezer Scrooge by far. His performance is really touching and he's the one who really seems the most changed by the end of the film.
I also love Edward Woodward as the ghost of Christmas present.

Allister Simms is the ONLY version we watch. It was a x-mas eve tradition for my family that I keep alive with my own children.

^Yep, Alaistair Sim is the best, IMHO. It's faithful, but adds some depth to Scrooge's backstory that really fleshes both him and Marley out. I like Reginald Owen, Scott, and Patrick Stewart as well, though. My second-favorite would have to be the Albert Finney musical Scrooge. Great songs and production, and Finney is perhaps the grimiest, nastiest Scrooge of all. Sir Alec Guinness' Marley is definitely the most sinister (and humorous) of any version out there.

Wow. That's a tough question for me. I've seen so many that rank as great interpretations of that tale. But as unpopular as this may sound, I think the one that really entertains me the most is "Scrooged" with Bill Murray. It just has a nice balance of humor yet meaningful subtext to keep the story relevant and even nostalgic with guest stars like Lee Majors in it.

I like the 1970 Musical "Scrooge" for the sumptuous production design, and for Albert Finney's amazing makeup/performance.

For sheer craftsmanship and artistry, the 30 minute cartoon by Richard Williams and Chuck Jones from 1971 is absolutely chilling, and one of the examples I'd point to on why I like traditional animation better than CGI.

My mom and older sister (RIP) both liked the Allistair Sims version. I like the George C. Scott, and Patrick Stewart versions. But those wonderful TV Christmas movies, I like the female versions: "Ebbie" w/ Susan Lucci, and "A Diva's Christmas Carol" w/ Vanessa Williams.

Mickey's Christmas Carol from 1983 would have to be my favorite, Disney's depiction of Tiny Tim always chokes me up.

1938 (Reginald Owen) is the favorite in this house. I just watched Alistair Sim for the first time in years and enjoyed it, but still love '38 the best.

I kind of dug the 70s musical but I haven't seen it in years.

^TCM showed it last week. I have the DVD as well. "Thank You Very Much" has been a running gag in our family for decades.

HBO had a great one back in the day. Rich Little's Christmas Carol. He did all his classic impressions with cutaways, make up and all.
I wouldn't mind seeing that again.

Same here (as I posted on my website last year as well https://www.facebook.com/PatrickDors...16842868362847). My son and I watch this version every Christmas. A few years back, we made it a point to record and watch every version we could ( think we saw eight "A Christmas Carol"-s that December!) and we both thought Scott was the best.

SCROOGED is packed with classic stuff... mostly humorous... but it also can tug at my heartstrings as well, despite it being played mostly for laughs. Scrooged's ending is Bill Murray playing himself the best in all his films, until maybe Lost In Translation, years later.
