Sony is now saying they have no plans to release the movie on VOD either. I'm actually flabbergasted by this whole thing.

The Prez just said he wasn't happy with their decision.

He said, "they should have come to me first".

I don't get all this; I thought at the very least, it would be released on home video & VOD.

Using North Korea as the FuManchu du jour is nothing new--in Bond films, for example. It may have been in poor taste to make this film, but I don't think companies or countries for that matter should knuckle under to terrorists, cyber or otherwise.

I find this whole Sony story/incident pathetic...

Regardless of the movie 'The Interview'...Sony was vulnerable...so...this is no one's fault BUT Sony's.

This is typical of MOST Major Corporation World Wide...they pay little attention or respect to their technological security. They spend millions on Physical Security and only a fraction of that on Computer Security.

I don't believe this is a marketing gimmick now that the Feds are involved...that would be stupid on Sony's part if it was or if they took advantage of it at this point.

            ...BUT...

Sony did the worst thing they could EVER do by caving in and pulling the release of the movie. Freedom of Speech/Expression aside...I don't believe that N. Korea has 'Sleeper' Agents roaming all over N. America on the ready to bomb Movie Theaters...and I don't believe they have a large number of Pro-N. Korea American Citizens that are willing to do their bidding.

Sony pulled this for one reason and one reason only...they don't want any more damaging material leaked...period. This is a Corporate CYA Situation...but...what they don't get is that this material is already off-loaded from their systems and copied (several times) and no amount of caving in to demands or money is going to make this go away. These are UnEthical Hackers (Cyber Terrorists) that are bound by no laws.

The only way to deal with this is own up to the material that was stolen (good & bad) and deal with the backlash/consequences now because this is the kind of thing that will take this company down (financially)...at least as a Global 'Entertainment' Company.

Oh...and invest in some serious Security Technology Specialists not some clerk wannabe at-home-in-their-basement-self-taught-from-the-internet poser.

            Absolutely Pathetic
Everyone is Entitled to MY Opinion...Your's, not so much!

If anything, you'd think there was a real James Bond-ish guy that could easily knock off Kim-John-Whatever

If the US Gov isn't up for the task perhaps they should employ Her Majesties Secret Service.

In this day and age it's inconceivable a dictator could do what he wants unless he's got some secret backing.

Why is it so hard to just rub him out ?

Sony had to pull the plug. The theaters were coming to them one by one saying they wouldn't show the film until there was no where left to go with it. Theaters aren't looking to be attacked or sued by patrons if something happens. Furthermore, running the movie may set up the theater companies to be hacked next.

Same goes for VOD places like Netflix or Hulu or whatever. They aren't looking to get hacked either.

I feel violence is unlikely, however litigations and hackings are VERY likely.
Expectation is the death of discovery.

If the film is already made but can't be shown, it will likely be on the black market,

It's not about a movie. It's about Japan and their recent elections. Japan is looking to change their martial status and China is warning us to not go along with it by using NK as a proxy.

If any other studio produced The Interview, North Korea/China would do nothing.

Reuters is the first to break the "China Involvement" embargo, then dropped it after Obama spoke because they're afraid to get it out there.

That's the thing, we wouldn't react over the movie. We already make our own movies that portray our presidents in an unflattering way. I'm not sure how threatening movie goers on Christmas Day can at all be justified.

Well, there wasn't a very big deal made when the Brits made a movie assassinating President Bush while he was still in office:

So I am not entirely surprised Sony has pulled the movie, for now. I am VERY surprised the movie was green lit in the first place, let alone made and marketed.

There are some pretty angry and more than slightly unhinged people in the World. Why poke them with a stick? I'm still steamed at you Americans for making Canadian Bacon (not really as we Canadians can take a joke).

Lets remake Condorman instead or at the very least remaster that bad boy and release it on Blu-Ray / Hi-Def streaming.

I was about to mention "Death of a President"... which wasn't a bad movie, and an interesting "What if?" story.

And there was a bit of outrage: http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=2385758

and threats against the filmakers: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...ins-award.html

Art always draws a reaction. That's the point of art. I believe this dog and pony show going on over The Interview is just that... a show. And it's because it's probably just a another bad Franco/Rogen film like that end of the world one, and upon completion the brass saw it and suddenly realized they were sitting on Ishtar's and Shanghai Surprise's love child.
