I'd accidentally leak it on the internet and blame hackers...

The brilliant "This Is The End", no matter what one may think of it personally, was such a success, that it saw an additional release to prolong it's strong box office run.... so, if Sony saw anything that reminded them of THAT... I think they'd be just fine with it

Looks like North Korea's internet has gone bonkers for some reason.

Sony is releasing the film on Christmas now in "limited theatres". Will be interesting to see how what people think of it.

i think part of the problem is finding distribution channels (movie theatres) who want to show the movie.

What I don't get is why Sony would want to release this film at Christmas anyway? Is there nothing else in the pipeline that could have played to a family audience?

It's counter-programming. Christmas week is dominated by college/high school age then...for lack of a better term....non-Christmas?...celebrating people.

with news that some independent theatre owners are picking it up, who's going to go see it?

Starting today, you can stream it online ($5.99 to rent, $14.99 to buy) through YouTube, Google Play, Xbox and Sony's site. This will be an interesting experiment, the first time that a commercial Hollywood film has had a same day and date release release in theatres and online. Such an idea has always been opposed by the major theatre chains, but this is a unique situation so Sony's giving it a shot. It will be interesting to see how online sales go for this, and if it is significant, what that could mean for the Hollywood film distribution model in the future.

Looks to be a second wave of larger movieplex-type theaters opening it on January 1st too.

Sony; first they caved, then they caved again… thus reverse shaft attempt gone awry. So silly.

So much trouble in the world.
